Obama admin. implementing a backdoor amnesty plan?

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

If the following doesn't amount to a back door amnesty plan for millions of illegal aliens, I don't know what does.

The federal government, which has long ignored our nation's immigration laws, choosing instead to sue states like Arizona which are overrun with illegal aliens, is changing its strategy.

They're focusing more on illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes - which makes sense. But by doing so the threat of deportation for millions of others who are in the U.S. illegally is reduced.

USA Today outlines some of the recent changes... including a proposal that would prohibit police from using misdemeanor traffic stops to send people to immigration officials.

The administration is also looking for ways to allow college students and spouses of military personnel to legalize their status or avoid deportation... if Congress doesn't pass immigration reform.

Critics say these measures show the government is "thumbing its nose at the law" and some suggest the Obama administration is trying to create a kind of backdoor amnesty program.

Immigration advocates are also not happy. They say deportations are at record highs and immigrants who stay in the U.S. are living in limbo - without any form of legal status.

With a record backlog of deportation cases and lacking an unlimited budget - the government says it makes sense to target people who pose the biggest threat to public safety.

Meanwhile it should come as no surprise that more than 20 states are now considering immigration laws like the one passed in Arizona. The public has had a bellyful of the government's impotence on this issue, and some states are trying to protect themselves.

Here’s my question to you: Is the Obama administration implementing a backdoor amnesty plan?

Tune in to the Situation Room at 6pm to see if Jack reads your answer on air.

And, we love to know where you’re writing from, so please include your city and state with your comment.

They probably are. And you want to know why? Because they have to. We have to. Enough partisan nonsense. We have 12 million people here who don't pay into the tax system but reap the benefits of living here. At the same time, we can't round up and deport 12 million people to Mexico lest we want to start a war with them. Ammnisty is the only option, Republican or Democrat. Period.

Probably. Obama uses every underhanded and dirty trick in the book, to get his way, and show America how he can become a dictator.

Of course. Leaks have proven it. They are already stopping enforcement of many laws; prefering instead to sue states that are actually trying to solve the problem. It a disgrace.

I don't know if President Obama is introducing a back door amnesty policy or not, but I do wish that those hard-working, tax-paying immigrants who may have children born here should should be given a path to citizenship if they have been here five years or more. That would give incentive for people to do it right and go through channels just like my father and in-laws did when they immigrated to this country.

Our president swore an oath to uphold the laws and the Constitution. Immigration is covered by the las of the United States. Failure to uphold/enforce these laws is a high crime/misdemeanor. Here's the scenario I fear: The republicans and their off-spring from the tea party, gain control of congress and start impeachment hearings for the failure to uphold the laws of the United States regarding immigration. ith approxomately 70% against our illegal guests, impeachment may become a very popular option.

I hope not – but would not put it past them. Many of the policies that have been passed don't have the majority Ameircan peoples input, support ot likelyoutcome when it comes from this administrations decisions. They may have some sobering results after the November elections.

If he does, then I hope that he is ready for the HUGE backlash that will be coming his way! He has done nothing but push for and pass bills that the majority of Americans don't want and don't support but then he has arrogantly continued down this path which is leading us to economic ruin. WHEN IS HE GOING TO LISTEN TO US??????

Is the Obama administration implementing a backdoor amnesty plan?

What you want him to give blanket amnesty to 12 MILLION illegals like Ronald Reagan and GHW Bush gave 8 MILLION.

I think that we need to do a better job at sealing all our borders, not just the one to the south, make it easier to get a path for citizenship, without rewarding those who broke our laws to get here.

As a side note, we have been trying to get family here, legally, for the past 25 years, following the legal processes. As for today we don't have a single family member here. So I could see why some would opt to get here illegally to be with family.

This administration has reached the pinnacle of being parasites, leaches, weasels, and cowards!

Of course they are implementing a back door amnesty plan! It is a shame that prosperous inventive American Citizens are leaving the United States for jobs in China, and India where there citizens starve to learn English so that they can take advantage of our modern society.

In contrast our government panders to Mexico; a worthless society of slavery whose main product is illegal drugs, crime, disease, filth, ignorance, and plain immorality! It isn’t hard to see that Obama and his administrations vision for our country is to become another toilet of the world!

Obama is trying his best to gain extra voters and a back door plan, to avoid immigration laws, for illegal aliens is right up Obama's back door alley Jack. It would be very nice, if Obama cared for the citizens of Arizona, as much as he cares, for illegal aliens and muslim extreemists. Obama is the first anti-American president.

There is no doubt they are setting up the conditions for one. ICE seems forbiden to deport anyone except an illegal alien axe murderer caught in the act. Police departments are not allowed to deprive illegals of housing, entitlement benefits, education, and other public services. The DoJ would rather sue a bunch of states for trying to do it's job for them than actually trying to help get the job done. Sounds to me like ol' BO is ducking the issue so much, he must be teeing up something big. Brace yourself.

I certainly hope so. We need to something realistic to deal with the problem. In lieu of minimal discernable signs of intelligent life in the halls of our 2 congressional day care centers, maybe this President can lead us into the 21st Century while the half-baked Dems try to keep the Geriatric Old Party from dragging us back to the Middle Ages.
Or maybe just hand out some hand tools and let them all go work on their idiotic "danged" fence.

With so much backdoor legislative shuffling going on, anybody's guess is as good as mine. We already have so many rights for illegal immigrants that it is difficult to differentiate between illegal immigrants and actual U.S. citizens. The same thing goes for the difference between a Republican and a Democrat as well.

    Hi Jack –

Whether it is a "backdoor" or "in plain sight" plan, they need to get something on the table. Although the sentiment across the US may be leaning heavily towards "no amnesty", a plan needs to be understood on "What do you do with all of the illegals that are already in the country?"

The controversial issue in the United States is whether illegal immigrants should be granted some form of amnesty. If it is proposed that illegal immigrants be able to come forward and immediately receive probationary status it should rightfully be criticized because it will be commonly viewed as being a reward for breaking the law. If it is not immediate, and there is an established plan to obtain citizenship after proving one's desire to be an American, than it will be viewed much more favorably.

I am not against amnesty for these individuals, however, it would be highly unfair to grant amnesty freely when so many others had to apply and follow the standard process.

Yes it is no secret. After the fall elections he plans to issue green cards to all 12 millon illegals who are taking jobs from americans. Obama also plans to halt all deportation enforcement. This will allow all illegals to remain working and living in the u.s. while 16% of legal americans remain out of work. Obama does not care one bit about the legal working class in this country. He just like the republicans wants to maintain a cheap labor force for corporations, no enforcement against corporations that hire illegals, and offers no hope for the working class to get a decent paying job again. Obama and the dems want to continue paying unemployment benefits to the unemployed instead of removing illegals from the workforce, placing tariffs on imported goods from china, removing all tax breaks for corporations that outsource jobs, and eliminating all work visas for cheap labor from india.

Of course. They don't care that these illegals broke the law–they only see votes. They see it as irrelevant that these illegals rape our health care and education systems, demand bilingual teachers only for spanish speaking, take our jobs and stick the legal citizens with the bill.

    Amnesty plan ??

EVERY plan and/or move ever made by the deceptive Obama administration is a "backdoor" operation.

  26. Phil in Port St Lucie, Florida

Jack, it's certainly a shame, but with 12 million illegal immigrants here, it's mathematically, almost impossible to do anything else.

That is not to say that the 1000's upon 1000's of "employers" can't go to jail for causing our dilemma. Hire an illegal and go directly to prison for ten years.

That is the only way to get these people "documented".

If a company or corporation wants to employ an illegal, they will have to pay for the cost of documenting the person.

BUT! The "Illegal Immigrant" MUST want to be an "United States Citizen" first!

If you still want to support your parent country, LEAVE!

Well, so much for transparency. I don't think our government knows what transparency means. If you cannot be up front with something then there's something wrong. Today it seems everything is trying to be pushed through behind the public's back. Transparency was to be a cornerstone of the Obama's administration. Even with Congress today things get added onto a bill that the public would not approve of because that is the only way they can get it through Congress.

    Who cares?

If Congress and the Justice Department will NOT enforce our immigration rules, at this point who cares?

Maybe the folks in ARIZONA, but the rest of us just seem to be stuck with illegals all over the place, no one in g=charge, and no one with any guts to enforce the law.

And the Republicans had their chance to enforce, and did absolutely nothing. maybe because they really LIKE having all the illegals, to do the work that they do for dirt cheap wages and no bebefits, which is what the Republicans would like AMERICANS to do.

So, Obama might as well get his licks in.

It seems that at this point, the only options are amnesty for 'good' illegals and sending the army to everyone's house to determine legal status. neither option is acceptable to the American people. The American people need to decide whether having armored men with guns stopping by your house multiple times demanding papers is what they want. I personally don't mind since i have documents and live alone. If you don't want the military solution, get behind amnesty or shut up and sit down.

Well if the government refuses to do its job, someone needs to. Congress passes laws to enforce them, not to ignore them. The President of all people should not be allowing the Justice Department to ignore what should be done.

No, Jack – the administration knows that there are already enough immigration laws on the books. The problem is that for decades Congress has chosen to cut funding of agencies that administer the guidlines.
As a result, there aren't enough (gasp) beaucrats to shuffle the necessary paperwork, enough housing for the millions of LEGAL immigrants being slowly shuffled through the process, etc.
Those 20 states who think they can do better trying to corral the banditos need to keep their rose-colored glasses handy. And be prepared to fork out more taxes for local law enforcement personnel, jail facilities, and public defenders .

Good for them, I hope so. Americans must be the most uneducated people of any country.
When I was a child one of the first things I learned, was about the Statue of Liberty and the poem..."give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these the homeless, tempest – tossed to me. I left my lamp beside the Golden door."
The forefathers of these selfish ungrateful Americans must be turning over in their graves who no longer want a free and freedom country. Some of our government leaders are teaching "fear" not "hope" , "controlled and not free" and the ignorant our lining up behind them.

Democrats and some Republicans have been implementing a backdoor amnesty plan since the first round of amnesty in 1985. Obama has been doing the same, consistently placing illegal alien's interests above those of our country, states, and citizens since taking his oath of office.

Simple solution, Jack., statehood. If so many Mexicans want to migrate here for a living wage and freedom from drug gangs and political corruption, then I bet they would vote in favor of being the fifty first star on old glory. The government is acting responsibly by not ignoring the people's security from facing and expelling illegal aliens who commited crimes and the government is acting with compassion with a more humane plan with measures that puts an end to the limbo and fear from the uncertainty of the status of young people attending colleges in order to be productive american citizens and for illegals serving the country risking their lives for us. How can we start showing support of illegal immigrants when we still have yet to stop their flow into our nation? I'm not for more of my tax dollars being spent to give someone what they tried to take illegally. I have three family members who have used this nation's difficult/expensive means to become a legal immigrant, one from Mexico, two from Russia. To those that came here and took what they wanted while disrespecting our laws, paying the salary of criminals (coyotes) to get here, I say freedom isn't free. Stop sending the message to people that you can have what you want easily. Yes they live under deplorable conditions in their nation, but that does not give them the right to break our laws. And certainly not give our government the right to ignore their crimes, require citizens to pay for their health care, education, etc. against our desires.

Jack i think it is humorous that people who should not even be in this country and who have illegally come to this country are living in limbo. What the hell are they expecting a free pass? This isn't limbo this is illegal period. You and the damn government don't see the difference and that is what the whole problem revolves around. No one in America has a problem with immigrants who come here legally. What they have a problem with and what is breaking our fiscall backs is having to support 12 million people plus all of their children and then their offspring who should not be here period.

So what if does lead to amnesty? If someone has been here for years, built a life, stays out of trouble, and sends their kids to school then I would be happy to let them become a citizen. It has been my experience that immigrants, undocumented/illegal, are reliable and work harder than most.

He still doesn't get it–we don't want to continue to support people who are here illegally and overburden our economy and that's exactly what would happen until these people pay taxes. We have sent the message that our laws were meant to be broken.
I voted today in the primary in my state. Hope Congress starts to get the message.

Steady, Jack. You've known for a long time that what Arizona planned to do is illegal. It's unconstitutional, but It's clear that those people have never even read our Constitution.

Did Republicans abolish the teaching of Civics in schools also? Does anyone know anything about America anymore? So sad, & very frightening. GOD HELP US!

From what you described, this is not a back door amnesty plan but an effort by the federal government to make the best use of its resources. The Obama Administration cannot win with you and the Republican Party, which profits from being an obstacle to sensible government for the people (not the rich). Why don't you urge Boehner and his colleagues to give back their salaries for doing nothing so the government can have the funding to enforce the immigration laws?

This administration incompetence risks a serious breakdown between the Federal and State governments. I am a senior citizen and in my lifetime I have never witnessed such a hostile atmosphere. If we were not a democracy such hostility would be very worry some. Thank God in a Democracy the people can correct such moves at the poles. none too soon if you ask me.

first–we have a president who has absolutely no ideaa of what he is doimg–second he has surrounded himself with people of the same qualifications– this is selective law enforcement which has no place in an honest Democracy which is what the U.S. used to be closer, too.

Failure to enforce our immigration laws is just pure negligence and should be addressed immediately or heads should roll. We should check for legal status when people apply for jobs, a drivers license, or whenever a crime has been committed. We should secure our borders now. And, we should be working on a comprehensive immigration reform bill that includes multi-year work visas and a reasonable path toward citizenship. Can't figure out why we haven't done this already but, then again, we don't have an energy policy either.

Is this just another rumor, Jack, to rile up the looney's or is there any substance to it?
Let's get the criminals off the street first – hire some more ICE or INS inspectors and then try to deport those who aren't here to be productive. If they've been here for 10 years picking vegetables or whatever why not give them some leeway about staying, if they want to, especially if they've had children born here.
This is our fault for allowing it to go on for so long without any consequence from our derelict government....who by the way we keep electing hoping it will improve....know what that is, don'tcha!

Of course he is implementing a "back-door" immigration plan!! What Obama is doing is, DESTROYING the AMERICAN CULTURE, of our country. We as Americans, have a history, language, heritage and CULTURE. Obama, is DESTROYING our country!!!!

And that this what I will say to his face,-PERSONALLY!!!!

Hello Jack; A bad question. How can anyone know what is in the law without reading it? An article in the SAP USA Today does not count as informed. This is just more of the news media rumor mill.
This is typical of our time, Uninformed people sounding off without the facts.

We wouldn't have this Illegal Immigration problem if the businesses of this country would follow the law of the land. They are the ones who keep hiring the illegals NOT because they can't get our folks to take the jobs BUT because they want CHEAP LABOR. That's the bottom line for all the illegal immigration. It is time that these companies were held accountable and paid for the destruction of the economy they have and are still causing .

If you would put people in jail that hire illegals that would stop most if not all the illegals. Make it a mandatory 5 year prison sentence and a $500,000 fine for those that hire them. Stop the bleeding where it is really at if you can't hire them what is the reason for them to come here.

it bothers me to contiinuously hear people in the media claim that the government has failed or has been unable to do it's job when it comes to controlling illegal immigration because none of that is true. The truth is that to do so conflicts with the administration's agenda of granting amnesty to 12 million illegals so that the democrats can register them to vote and secure a voting majority. It's important for people to realize this would be a huge benefit to the party and help to ensure they stay in power in the future.

I think that Obama's plan makes perfect sense, but it doesn't address the major reason illegals cross the border. As long as employers are not held accountable, the illegal crossing will continue.

Law abiding people looking for work should be treated with dignity and respect just like treated the people who came through Ellis Island years ago. These workers should never be confused with Terrorists who fly in legally and have money in their pockets.

Way to go Jack. Yet another loaded question for your blog. No! We don't want amnesty and I don't believe Obama or his administration are going for that either. We do need COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM. Unfortunately, the right summarizes comprehensive immigration reform as "amnesty." Remember, we're dealing with people (men, women and children) when we talk about undocumented immigrants. The right seems to forget that too.

Chicago politics are ok in Chicago but the United States Border is an issue for all Americans, By Congressional act. regulatory change, or backdoor politics, this president is determined to allow everyone who wants to come to this country, to have a free pass. He just doesn't understand that it just doesn;t work that way, and people are tried of it..and him.

Have you got any idea what it would do to the people living on a fixed income if the prices of food were to quadruple? Ask any american farmer and he'll tell you that without illegal aliens we would starve.

Well, Jack, something needs to be done! Back or front door -what does it matter? Unlike Congress, at least the Obama administration has the courage to act!

Our immigration laws at the present time have no system to consider the special circumstances of the over 65,000 U.S.-raised students who would qualify for the DREAM Act after graduating from high school. It is positively wrong to punish these promising, hardworking immigrant youth.

Congress has failed to act year after year– and if the same lack of political will occurs again this year, another entire group of outstanding, law-abiding high school students will graduate without being able to dream and plan for the future.

I say—let’s open wide the back door!

Yes I hope so, whatever it takes to get it done.
Do you see what the Party of No has up their sleeve? First they will get rid of the Hispanics, then the African Americans, then the Arab Americans, then who knows who is next.
If this isn't racial, then I don't know what it is.
My relatives came from England and Scotland century's ago, but who knows we might be next Jack.
