Sen. John McCain refuses to say he would support his former running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, if she runs for president in 2012.

McCain was asked directly during an interview on ABC's "This Week" if Palin can count on McCain's support. He ducked. When pressed on the question he ducked again, saying, "My corpse is still warm."

Palin was McCain's running mate, and he won't say he'll support her? This is the person he picked to be the second in command, to lead the nation should something happen to him, had he been elected President. And now he not only pauses, but won't answer whether or not he'll support her?

This was McCain's first Sunday political TV interview since he lost the election. He insists Palin helped his campaign and continues to publicly state his appreciation to the entire Palin family.

Maybe McCain is finally coming to terms with the true impact she had on his campaign. Toward the end his name didn't even appear at some of her rallies.

Barack Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet and polls have shown Republicans want Palin in 2012.

Here’s my question to you: What’s with Sen. John McCain unwilling to say he’ll support his former running mate?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Dave from Orlando, Florida writes:
It's about the smartest thing he's done since he became a candidate a few years ago.

Sherrol from Canada writes:
Funny he didn't have a problem with her when she was his running mate stirring up derision and putting her stamp on polarization. Again, it says a lot about the man who wanted to be President, a man who goes where the wind blows, who would do anything to get what he wants.

Alex writes:
Jack, Sarah Palin damaged McCain's chances of winning and as a result, McCain wants to return the favor by damaging Palin's chances of winning the Presidency in 2012.

Jeremiah from Virginia writes:
I think he is still upset about not winning the Presidency. He went "all in" when he chose Palin to be his VP in an attempt to capitalize on disappointed Hillary supporters, and ended up losing his shirt.

Susan from Tuscaloosa, Alabama writes:
McShame was not above foisting Daisy Mae Mooseburger off on the rest of us to solidify the right wing nut GOP base. I guess now that he knows he'll never be President no matter how much of his soul he sells out, he's back to putting country ahead of expediency. Personally, I'd like to see Trailer Park Barbie as the next Republican nominee. It'd make 2012 a cakewalk for Obama's re-election.

Barbara from Massachusetts writes:
This is as plain as the nose on your face. She's not qualified, period. He does not need her now or ever again.

David from Texas writes:
Jack, Jack, JACK! Why dost thou persist in perpetuating the Palin Anomaly? Please just let it go. Just let her fade back into the six months of obscure darkness from which she came.

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

One of the longest, nastiest and most divisive presidential races is now in the history books. Thankfully.

Now the next chapter: Moving forward and getting this country back on its feet.

Obama supporters are ready. They're fired up, but that isn't exactly the case when it comes to many of John McCain's supporters.

Amidst all the jubilation over the election of Barack Obama broadcast all over the world, it's worth noting that 56 million Americans did not vote for Obama and are not thrilled that he won. In the popular vote, Obama won by less than eight million votes out of more than 120 million votes cast.

Obama has talked about repairing this divided nation. In Grant Park on Election Night, he said that he would be a president for the people that didn't vote for him as well as for those who did. But with emotions running high, supporters of John McCain are having trouble letting go.

Here’s my question to you: What will Obama have to do to win over wary McCain supporters?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Beevee from Michigan writes:
He needs to work closely with McCain or appoint McCain for some important position in his administration to assure McCain supporters that all is forgotten and he is ready to be president of the United States not just Democrats.

Ryan writes:
Jack, I think a bipartisan cabinet would help make the McCain supporters who are moderate Republicans believe in Obama. The ones who are on the extreme right will probably never be able to support Obama, which is a shame. As a McCain supporter, I fully support Obama and hope he does well for this country and its citizens.

C.J. from Atlanta, Georgia writes:
McCain's supporters need to stop condemning our country's future before giving Obama a chance. They will be pleasantly surprised when the sun continues to rise and America prospers again.

Sean writes:
Use the term "my friends".

Sheba from Delaware writes:
I'm not concerned about Obama trying to win over anybody. I want him to do his best to clean up the mess left by the past Administration. He doesn't need a fan club; he just needs to be able to do his job to the best of his ability.

John from Arizona writes:
Jack, if he wants to win over McCain Republicans he can ban gay marriage, appoint a far-right Supreme Court justice and nominate Sarah Palin as Secretary of State. I'm not recommending any of the above, you understand!

Michael from Pensacola, Florida writes:
Say "9/11" and "bomb Iraq" every few sentences. And for the Palin supporters, walk around without shoes and say "real Americans"!

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

What happened to John McCain? The likable "maverick" who beat some pretty strong competition to capture his party's nomination had morphed into something else by yesterday.

After promising to run an "honorable" campaign, McCain quickly became another symbol of the divisive politics of past Republican presidential campaigns. Name calling, insults, pettiness, and empty gestures replaced the once likable McCain we all look to to challenge the status quo. His campaign got nasty, and his lack of judgment was on display for all to see a couple of times late in the race.

Sarah Palin was an act of desperation. With little vetting McCain named an unknown from Alaska to energize the Republican base. But she came with too much baggage and quickly went from an asset to a liability. Openly ignorant of the issues in press interviews, Palin began to offend women and anger McCain's campaign managers who sniped that she was a "rogue" who frequently went off the reservation in pursuit of her own interests instead of McCain's.

When the financial crisis exploded, McCain made a huge empty gesture. He suspended his campaign, threatened to cancel the first presidential debate-he was the one who wanted all those town meetings, remember? - and rushed back to Washington where he accomplished absolutely nothing. In the end, he looked silly.

He might not have been able to overcome the damage to the Republican brand anyway, but he quickly became his own worst enemy who gave away any chance to win.

Here’s my question to you: What was John McCain's biggest mistake?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Joan writes:
Hi Jack, John McCain's biggest mistake was running his campaign with an entitlement mentality. He truly felt that he was owed this election and when he saw that it was not going to be handed to him he ran a very negative campaign and in the process turned off many Americans.

Becky from Austin, Texas writes:
Let's see, there was his choice in running mate, his lack of understanding of our economic crisis, his lack of coherence throughout his campaign and of course, who can forget Joe the plumber. I wonder what he's going to do now. Maybe get his license to plumb finally?

Sarah writes:
He made a lot of mistakes but I think his biggest was picking Sarah Palin. Not just because it was a drag on the ticket, which was part of the reason he lost, but because of the divisions that she has caused within the Republican Party.

Melissa from Canada writes:
His biggest mistake was to change who he was as candidate from 2000 and become more in-line with a status quo that no one really supports anymore. He needed a clear message of how he was not George W. Bush and he never really delivered on that.

Kirsten from San Diego, California writes:
Simple: He selected a superficial political tactic for a Vice President instead of a qualified successor.

Mark from Mississippi writes:
The popular opinion will be Sarah Palin. I do believe that John McCain's worst mistake was running as a Republican in the election year following George W Bush. I do believe that in this election cycle that no Republican could have won the Presidency.

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

A lot can change in politics in a year. Just think about it. Last year at this time, the race for the White House looked entirely different. John McCain was far from being the front-runner on the Republican side. And Barack who? Senator Hillary Clinton and former V.P. candidate John Edwards had to be considered the odds on favorites for the Democrats.

And, of course, most of us had never even heard of Sarah Palin.

Different issues held different weight with voters and candidates too. In late August of last year, a CNN poll found that 31 percent of voters saw the war in Iraq as the top issue facing America, while 23 percent said it was the economy. Health care came in at 17 percent and terrorism at 10 percent.

Watch: Cafferty: Most important issue?

Flash-forward to this fall and everything has changed. In a CNN poll released Sunday, more than half of voters listed the economy as the top issue - 57 percent– followed by health care and the war in Iraq, tied for second at 13 percent each. Just 11 percent felt terrorism was the top issue.

Here’s my question to you: What single issue was most important to you?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Rich from Minot, North Dakota writes:
The economy, with justice for the middle class! John McCain couldn't even say the word “middle class.” A middle class tax cut is redistribution of wealth but the tax cuts for the rich, wasn't? Grandpa didn't fool me!

Jim from Kansas writes:
The war in Iraq was the only issue that got me out to vote. I feel that Obama will bring the troops home a little sooner than McCain.

Elle from Pullman, Washington writes:
Health care, hands-down. I run a small business and support my family of four. We had to search for our own health care and I can tell you for certain, our health care system stinks. My whole family is healthy with no "pre-existing conditions", non-smokers, etc. and our premiums are ridiculous, even with higher deductibles.

Ralph writes:
The economy is a very important issue. However, getting the current, inept Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Rice administration into the history books was foremost on my mind. John McCain is a good man, and I have respect for him. However, his affiliation with the mess we now have moved my vote to Obama-Biden.

Scott from Wichita, Kansas writes:
The war on terror. We've seen very little economic impact out here– house prices went up, and Iraq is looking better than ever. Now we need to concentrate on how well the sanctions and diplomacy have worked so far in North Korea, and use those lessons on the other state sponsors of terror. We also need to re-focus on Afghanistan. The market will recover, it always does.

Ryan fom Indiana writes:
I think all of our financial woes begin and will hopefully end with an ultimate end to the war in Iraq. The war has dragged down our financial system, elevated the gas prices and created nothing but headaches and heartaches to every tax paying American. I hope to see some progress and to see a great percentage of our troops home by the end of next year.

Voters have a distinct choice between John McCain and Barack Obama in this presidential race– two very different approaches to arguably the most serious set of challenges we have faced in a hundred years. Whoever wins will have his hands full.

But what about the rest of us? Our part is finished after we cast our ballots on November 4th, and after all the votes have been tallied, the excitement will be over.

Most of us will be happy with the outcome, but if you look at the latest polls, a good number of us won't be rushing to embrace the new leadership.

Either way a new administration means new faces at the top and new policies that will trickle down to all of us little people. The form of that trickle will determine the way a lot of our lives will go in the future.

Craig from Mission Viejo, California writes:
If Barack Obama wins or loses I'll still have to work hard and smart, live unselfishly, spend and save wisely, and hope momentum has been gained which can help right his country and the entire world. On second thought, if John McCain wins, maybe I'll just take up prayer.

Kevin from Dallas, Texas writes:
I'm for McCain, and I work for a big business. But unlike the big businesses that have hurt our economy so, the company I work for is ethical. If McCain loses, my company will probably be hit hard by new policies, as Obama bites the hand that feeds me. I'll make sure to keep my resume up to date.

Brandon writes:
If Barack Obama loses this election then nothing will change for me at all, and that's precisely the problem.

Patti writes:
Perversely, if the candidates' tax plans are followed, my husband and I will be over $8,000 a year richer if our candidate Barack Obama loses. How's that for a silver lining?

Ed from Egan, Minnesota writes:
Jack, If McCain and Palin would somehow win, I'm moving out of the country to someplace that has a real democracy.

M. writes:

Kevin from Chester Springs, Penn. writes:

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger - a Republican and supporter of John McCain - told national public radio yesterday that Alaska governor Sarah Palin is not prepared to take over the job of President if she had to. He said, "I devoutly hope that [she] would never be tested."

But the fact is that if some people in the Republican Party get their way, she could be tested one day. Should John McCain lose the race for the White House, you can bet your last dollar this moose huntin', gun totin', pro-life hockey mom will not fade from the political spotlight. She's a huge hit with a group of social conservatives who embrace her values and see her as a fresh face for a divided party… to them, a 2012 Palin run for President may be on the horizon.

Watch: Cafferty: What's next for Palin?

But a lot of other people feel quite differently. Sarah Palin quickly became a national joke for her lack of experience, failure to grasp the issues and inability to handle herself with the media - especially those awful interviews she did with Katie Couric. Recently she's gone off script and off message on the campaign, angering several of McCain 's campaign advisers. She's been called everything from a "diva" to a "whack job," and yet through it all she remains remarkably unphased.

In an interview this week on ABC's 20-20, Palin said, "I'm not doin' this for naught." Yet another pithy utterance.

Here’s my question to you: If John McCain loses, what’s next for Sarah Palin?

Anne from Seattle, Washington writes:
With that pushy personality, we will unfortunately see more of her. I won't be watching though. And if the Republicans see her as part of their future, I see the U.S. as a one party system. My wish is that she'd spend her life gazing at Russia quietly, very quietly.

Sherry from Pennsylvania writes:
She will go back to Alaska, a state that we in the lower 48 should stop casting such a dim view on, and she will continue to govern the energy rich state, be herself, and a mom. There is no job in the world more important than being a good parent. I wish everyone would give her a break and stop demonizing her.

Dennis from Cleveland, Ohio writes:
Hopefully, obscurity!

James from Chuckey, Tennessee writes:
Her name will become synonymous with the anti-intellectual, intolerant, theocratic, base of the former GOP. She will be the candidate of choice for those who do not read, those who still look under their beds for communists at night, those who wish to limit the freedoms that most of America wants. She will hopefully be required to repay the state of Alaska for flying her family around as if they were royalty.

Roy from Chicago writes:
With her comedic delivery, she is well suited to situation comedies. How about "Third Rock from Russia"? Political mother of pregnant teenager with snowmobiling husband deals with the trials and tribulations of Alaskan life in the midst of a hilarious impeachment!

Jeff writes:
What's next for Princess Palin? Nothing.

Toni writes:
She and Joe the Plumber can hook up and get a reality TV show on MTV.

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

Less than 140 hours until election day when Americans will rush to the polls in what is expected to be record numbers to decide the direction of their country for the next four years.

Never has more money been spent by candidates for president to try to convince you they are the answer to America's problems. And yet after almost two years of campaigning, it is estimated that somewhere around seven percent of Americans still have not decided whether they want John McCain or Barack Obama to run things.

The differences between the two men are as pronounced as between any two candidates for the nation's highest office in a very long time. Whether he admits it or not, John McCain carries the mantle of President George W. Bush with him–seen as a continuation of the policies that have led to record low approval ratings for our current president. Americans are simply not happy with the way things are going. Yet McCain remains competitive.

Barack Obama is seen by many as a transformational figure who offers the country a chance to break with the past. His early campaign theme of change took hold with many of those Americans who are dissatisfied.

It would seem that if John McCain has any realistic chance of winning next Tuesday, he must somehow attract a large percentage of those voters who have yet to make up their mind.

Here’s my question to you: In the final few days, what can John McCain do to win over undecided voters?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Robert writes:
Nothing...Unfortunately John McCain is a different man than he was 8 years ago, and he hasn't changed for the better. If he'd continued as a "Maverick" instead of pandering to the republican base, he would probably be in a better situation. Guess that's the price you pay when you sell out.

Sharon from Houston, Texas writes:
Absolutely nothing. Stick a fork in it. That turkey's done.

Lisa from Fort Lauderdale, Florida writes:
Jack, who the heck are these 'undecided' voters? We have been inundated with so much information. How could anyone who is not in a coma still be undecided? At this point, McCain needs to work on restoring his respectability so he can return to the Senate with dignity.

Timothy from Brea, California writes:
McCain can't do anything further than sit back and watch what his tactics brought him, a defeat. Sorry McCain, a war vet is good but that will not plant you in the White House. Obama, in 5 days and counting.

Marie writes:
John McCain can win undecided voters by going back to his real maverick ways, stopping the negative ads, and fighting his opponent with real American issues. We don’t want to hear about Barack Obama's next door neighbor, tell us about our 401(k) and the loss of jobs and economic security. Stop the bull!

Jeff writes:
If he drops out of the race, I'll vote for him. I promise!

Suzanne writes:
Jack, my brother-in-law is one of the people you referred to, only he's not undecided. He just thinks his vote is none of your business.

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

The signs are increasingly ominous that John McCain's dream of being president is just about over. In one battleground state after another, Barack Obama's lead continues to grow. CNN's electoral map has been adjusted to suggest that if the election were held today, Barack Obama would get 291 electoral votes - it takes 270 to win - while John McCain would get just 163 - leaving 84 electoral votes up for grabs.

Barack Obama holds substantial leads in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Colorado and Virginia… all red states won by President Bush in 2004.

Obama also leads in Florida and North Carolina .

The Associated Press quotes GOP consultant Tom Rath in New Hampshire where McCain trails by double digits as saying the race is all but over, quote, "I get the sense it's shutting down," unquote.

AP also cites a senior GOP aide in Congress speaking on condition of anonymity as saying McCain advisers are now being asked by some Republican leaders to focus McCain's travel on states with close senate races… essentially abandoning his White House ambitions to help re-elect GOP Senators.

Here’s my question to you: How close is the White House race to being over?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

John writes:
I wish that I could believe it's over. I know, however, that the Republicans are capable of subverting the will of the people. What will it be this year? Probably not hanging chads, the Supreme Court, or screwed up polls in Ohio, but it will be something. So, I guess, put me in the column of knowing that Obama has the votes to win but the Republicans have the machinery in place to steal this election.

Dee from Antioch, California writes:
The race isn't over! It won't be over until all the polling stations close, and the last votes are counted. Also, there has been a new candidate introduced into the election. The new candidate is called "Voting Machines". Can we trust that our true vote will be counted?

Shannon from Thomasville, Georgia writes:
The race for the White House was over once John McCain's campaign unleashed Sarah Palin. She killed McCain's chances for the office of the presidency once she opened her mouth and nothing-save nonsense-starting coming out.

Art from Miller Place, New York writes:
McCain's presidential bid ended on September 15th when the economy tanked.

Kris writes:
If the polls are correct we are doomed, but I have faith that they aren't. It's pretty un American to delay the World Series last night for someone who isn't even the President. Some might think it's in the bag but, it isn't over until the fat lady sings!

Fred writes:
I think we can all read body language pretty good. Mc Cain has acquired the posture of a loser and his partner, Tinkerbell, is off sewing seeds for 2012.

Gary from North Carolina writes:
The Fat lady, her Fat husband and all the little Fat children have sung.

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

Of all the differences between Barack Obama and John McCain, here's one that could really make a difference down the home stretch: One has a president to help him and the other one does not. And at first glance, it's not what you might think.

After his appearance with Barack Obama tonight at a rally in Kissimmee, Florida, former president Bill Clinton plans to criss-cross the country on behalf of Obama in the closing days of the campaign. Tonight will mark President Clinton's first joint appearance with Obama on the campaign trail. Despite his lukewarm support at first,President Clinton as well as Hillary Clinton will campaign hard in the next few days to help Obama try to close the deal.

Watch: Cafferty: Cafferty: Bush support McCain?

But what about John McCain? He has a sitting president in his party. President Bush has been dubbed "the invisible man" when it comes to campaigning for his dear friend and fellow Republican, John McCain.

Here’s my question to you: President Clinton is campaigning for Barack Obama. Why isn't President Bush campaigning for John McCain?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Garth writes:
Bush campaigning with McCain and Palin? You can't be serious. This would be a real comedy show– two comedians and one sidekick, McCain. Bush couldn't help a class leader get elected with his pitiful record. Isn't it a real pity that a sitting president cannot be of any help to the candidate from his own party seeking to succeed him?

Kathy writes:
Jack, John McCain doesn't need President Bush by his side as he has "Anchorage Annie" as his VP pick who is even more extremist, right fringe-minded. However, it would be a wonderful October Surprise if the President would call a prime-time news conference to remind all of us of his endorsement of McShame.

Ian from Fairfax, Virginia writes:
Well Jack, simply put, it's Bush. I think the best way Bush can help McCain is staying out of his campaign.

Derek from Toronto, Ontario writes:
Bill Clinton did so much good for the economy and secretly wishes he could have run again. George Bush has done so little for the economy and secretly wishes he could just run away

Nora from Corpus Christi, Texas writes:
I think it is horrible the way McCain has thrown George W. Bush under the bus because of this election. I would have been more impressed with McCain if he would have said, Yes, I voted for Bush and I have agreed with him 94% of the time, but now I see we have to take the country in a different direction. Shame on you, McCain. You really are not loyal to anyone right now, are you?

Cee writes:
President Bush's feelings are still hurt because McCain only agreed with him 90% of the time. He wanted 100%.

Brian from Clearwater, Florida writes:
President Bush campaigning for Senator McCain would be like Senator Stevens of Alaska endorsing Sarah Palin for Vice President. I would rather have the coal in my stocking at Christmas.

FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

In a last ditch effort to pick up those undecided voters, John McCain's message is focused on portraying Barack Obama as a socialist who wants to raise your taxes and redistribute your wealth.

A socialist? Really? A couple of weeks ago the government effectively nationalized some of the nation's largest banks– a plan signed into law by the current republican president, George W. Bush. A law Senator John McCain voted in favor of. Is nationalizing our banks socialism?

McCain says Obama will be a tax and spender if he's elected. Consider this: The Republican administration of John McCain's good buddy, President Bush, has doubled our national debt since 2000. Bush rewrote the definition of spending money, and McCain supported him more than 90 percent of the time.

We're fighting two wars and facing a giant financial crisis. My buddy, CNN Senior Political Analyst Gloria Borger, says in a column on CNN.com, quote: "No matter who is elected, the new president will find himself trying to figure out a way to keep some of his campaign promises without breaking the bank." Borger says in a week that means someone is going to have to start figuring out how to govern.

When Clinton left office the economy was sound, the government was running a surplus, we were at peace, and the banks were still private institutions. Then what happened. John McCain 's friend George Bush happened.

Here’s my question to you: Who would be the bigger spender in the White House: John McCain or Barack Obama?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Amy from Elkridge, Maryland writes:
I think when you look at what will be the bottom line, this country will be much better off financially with Barack Obama as president. Unlike John McCain, who would like to pull the lint out of the pockets of the poor, Barack Obama will go where the real money is, and tax the rich who can afford to do without a couple of bucks.

Stella from Bethlehem, Penn. writes:
I think whoever wins will have to spend a lot to get our country back on track. The question will be where the money comes from. Will it keep coming from the middle class or will someone help level the playing field and make companies pay what they should?

Jennifer from Raleigh, N.C. writes:
That depends. What price do you put on morality, on unity, or on our reputation at home and around the world? What’s the ROI for investing in the middle class and on turning our attention to energy independence? This Presidency is more than just dollars, it’s dollars and “sense.” McCain in office would be far more costly, on all fronts, economic and otherwise.

Marjorie from Canada writes:
Both would be big spenders. The difference is that John McCain would spend it on tax breaks for his wealthy buddies and continuing a multitude of wars, and Barack Obama would spend it on rebuilding the U.S. infrastructure, health care, schools and tax breaks for the poor and middle class who have been overlooked for the last eight years.

PJ writes:
It’s a sad day in America. Barack Obama has been accused of being a socialist , a terrorist, a communist an elitist, a liar. I could go on and on, but from what I'm getting from this entire election, "McCain and Palin" are the only ones terrorizing people.

Dhiren from California writes:
I think they would spend equally. However, Obama's economic policies target the right group of people which will create millions of jobs which means higher productivity, an improvement in exports, and a lower national deficit. Although I will likely benefit from McCain's tax policies, I believe Obama is the better choice for the overall economy.
