There would be no economic recovery and no matter what any politician from any party tried it would not work. Like most people, at that point it would be much cheaper for me to not work than to get to work. Beginninglast fall and going for several months thereafter people cut back on their driving significantly and oil came down. we can control the price oil. Don't drive anywhere you can bike or walk and let's send those oil executives into bankruptcy along with the car makers.

I don't think it will get that high, especially if the oil companies start producing record profits again- there would be a huge wave of American citizens showing up at the oil company headquarters asking for their share.

Oil at half of that had me close to the point where it wasn't worth it to go to work.
Most of northern NH and Maine aren't counted in all those fancy stats. We would be reduced to subsistence farming and barter becoming like a 3rd world nation.

The speculators really need to be banned from investing in strategic national resources. Their activities can destroy an economy and our national security shouldn't be held hostage to a select few.

Whee! Are we having fun yet. This good news about oil and gasoline just makes me want to shout. I'm thinking that the 22 mile trip to town from my rural home is not going to be much fun on a moped. We have a lot of hills in Tennessee.

I just came back from the Netherlands and fuel over there was $1.34 a liter and we're complaining. People over there either ride bikes, or use public transportation. I didn't see one fat person over there. I wonder what form of transportation they might be using.
