He betrayed the trust of those who entrusted him with everything they had saved. He betrayed charities whose good works he extinguished in a day. These betrayals are epic in their scope and in their utter lack of remorse or responsibility. He not only made a bad calculation about how money works, he made a bad calculation about how life works. Madoff probably is a scurrilous villain, but he is still presumed innocent until he is convicted or enters a guilty plea. The issue today was whether he violated his bail. The court decided he had not done so, but did impose additional conditions, including having all his outgoing mail searched, and he remains unable to leave without being escorted. Once again our illustrious judicial system shows that the rich and famous can do what they please, regardless if it causes people to loose everything they own. Question: If one of the people that Madoff screwed out of millions or thousand of dollars commits suicide becuase they lost everything will he be charged with premeditated murder?
