Palin fired her public safety commissioner and is now under investigation.
Palin fired her public safety commissioner and is now under investigation.

FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:

Governor Sarah Palin is being investigated by lawmakers in her home state of Alaska. At issue: Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan and whether he was fired because he refused to pink slip a state trooper who divorced Palin’s sister.

But Palin is refusing to cooperate with the investigation. Shades of President Bush. Embarrassing investigation? Just refuse to cooperate and claim it’s all someone else’s fault.

Palin says the probe’s been hijacked by the Obama campaign for political gain. But Monegan was fired and the investigation begun long before Palin was named to the Republican ticket.

The Obama campaign denies the accusation.

McCain’s people say Palin will not cooperate with the investigation because it is “tainted.” They insist Monegan was fired because of insubordination.

Palin has not been subpoenaed, but last Friday Alaska lawmakers voted to subpoena her husband, several aides and telephone records. This kind of stuff may also explain why Sarah Palin is reluctant to do interviews or news conferences.

Here’s my question to you: What does it mean that Gov. Sarah Palin is refusing to cooperate with the investigation into the firing of her public safety commissioner?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Marie from Minnesota writes:
This woman is ridiculous. She won’t answer questions from the media. She won’t answer questions from voters and she won’t answer questions related to this investigation. It is so obvious that this woman is not prepared at all to be V.P. At some point the American public deserves to have their questions answered.

Eileen writes:
Well what else can it mean? Her handlers know she has something to hide, so let’s all blame the Democrats. So what if the facts are that the Republicans are the majority who opened the investigation?

Bruce from St. Paul, Minnesota writes:
For the same reason Rove, Cheney, and anyone remotely connected to them will not honor congressional subpoenas. The same reason Nixon would not cooperate with the Watergate investigators. The same reason Bush would not produce, and in fact destroyed his Air National Guard records. Laws are for suckers like us.

Sasha writes:
Palin failing to cooperate with the investigation, along with the McCain campaign not letting her do any more interviews or press conferences on her own, says there are some question marks about her and her situation. Where did the “straight talk express” go on the McCain-Palin campaign?

Pablo from Charles from Town, WV writes:
It means they need more time to put lipstick on the pig, bulldog or whatever animal they are trying to disguise before the American people can see it for what it really is. My guess is it is a weasel.

Debra writes:
It means she is better prepared to be vice-president than any of us thought. Following in the footsteps of our current V.P., she has been taught the values of “executive privilege” and is apparently a quick learner.

Guilty!

Miko Kansas City   September 16th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Sounds like she is running!! She is running from the troopergate investigation as well as answering questions from media and town halls. How can this be in an political campaign ? this goes to show that McCain judgement is flawed. who picks a flawed candidate and markets them as a reformer??

Lewis   September 16th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

It simply means she and the mccain campaign have something to hide, sound familiar? The straight talk express my eye. You can put lipstick and make-up on a pig and it still stinks.

yahya issalmou   September 16th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

jack, it means she got something to do with it, and she is afraid that she may get caught by contradicting herself in some of the questions. obviously, she will try to let this issue get postponed till after the election.

Mary - Santee CA   September 16th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

It has always been my contention, “if you have nothing to hide bring it out into the open”. Obviously Governor Palin, one would assume, has something to hide. Candidates records should be open to everyone and if there is a chance that the Governor overstepped her authority for personal reasons we need to know.

roger dowdle lockhart, tx   September 16th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

It means that she knows she is guilty! First her staff were going to go to court to avoid testifying, now she wants to refuse to cooperate! What will she do if they subpoena her? From all reports cronyism and vengance were her trademarks, so much for reaching across the aisle! It exemplifies rhe poor judgement McCain exhibits time after time, starting with his decision to remain a POW rather than accept release for medical reasons. That decision gave the N. viets time to break him and allowed him to make anti american propaganda for them.

If she fails to cooperate then she is guilty and a typical politician that can’t take responsibility.

Dan   September 16th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

If you are her supporter…it means she’s avoiding the liberal investigators, liberal press, liberal citizens, liberal….

If you are not her supporter…it means she has something to hide.

“SOMETHING STINKS IN THE STATE OF ALASKA UNDER SARAH PALAIN’S DESK” !!! –MAYBE AN OLD BURREID MOOSE—

Art from N.J.   September 16th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

It means she thinks it’s OK to follow the examples of Rove, Cheney and Bush and show no respect for the Constitution of the United States.

Kind of the way the rest of the World shows no respect to them.

Doyle from Canada   September 16th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Hi Jack;

What it means is she has something to hide.

Off topic-When Paylin/McCain lie how can they call themselves christians?

Oh I forgot their republicans.

When McCain says he will go to the gates of hell to get Osama, how many of your young people is he willing to sacrafice?

Marieth, Chicago   September 16th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

It means that she is just like the folks we are trying to get rid of. Hiding stuff BEFORE the election….not good. Shows what would happened if THEY got in office. Didn’t Bush/Cheney, et. al, behave the same way? Glad you’re back Jack, Sorry about your loss .

Dave, Brooklyn, NY   September 16th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

It means that we have more of the McSame Republican arrogance – people who think they are above the law and are subject to no rules, regulations or standards of conduct – let alone any moral or ethical values. Four more years people. Wasn’t the last eight enough. Twelve years of McBush will destroy your country if you can’t see that you deserve what you get. Unfortunately I, and the other reasonably intelligent people who’s eyes are open will be dragged down with you.

Paulette Dallas PA   September 16th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

It means that she thinks that she is above the law and does not have to answer to anyone for anything. By not cooperating proves that she has something to hide. The National Enquire has released many secrets that Sassy Sarah is hiding. Remember - the Enquire is the paper that proved OJ owned those Bruno shoes with a picture. Let them dig into Sarah for a while. In her interview with Charlie Gibson she appeared cocky. She will dig her own grave, just give her time.

Ann Briggs   September 16th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Generally, when someone refuses to cooperate, they have something to hide, or are just plain guilty. I just don’t trust this one (Palin that is), Jack. I’ve been on board with Obama before he announced he was running for President. I still am. Somthin’s gotta give!!!

Camilla   September 16th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I have heard very little substantive about Sarah Palin. What I have heard is that she is a reformer who makes government accountable and is not afraid to take on unethical politicians. It seems strange that she is not afraid to be the conducter on the “Get rid of Unethical Politicians” train as it rolls over others but she does her best to derail investigations into her personal ethics. Her refusal to cooperate means she believes the rules are different for her.

Jayne   September 16th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

It means voting for McCain/Palin is a vote for more of the same. Haven’t we had enough of leaders who believe they are above the law? Since she won’t cooperate, you know darn well she’s hiding something.

Jack, if Palin has nothing to hide she would be fully cooperating with the investigation……she along with the Mc Cain campaign bigwigs are using all their power to keep the investigation at a stand still so the American voting public won’t know the error in judgment she made…and if she didn’t do it i refer back to my opening line.

By the way I couldnt care one way or another, and I really don’t think the American public cares either, because the majority of them are not voting for her either just like i’m not.

Ernie Hinds from Maryland   September 16th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

It doesn’t show me anything that I didn’t already know. This woman is willing to do and say anything to get her ticket elected. She has lied repeatedly about the bridge to nowhere and the McCain campaign has made a habit of lying in their ads. It is no suprise that Palin lied to the investigators when she said that she would be willing to meet with them regarding troopergate.

Jim, from Las Vegas   September 16th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

It means she is listening to her new advisors and trying not to step in it any deeper than she already has. It has a negative image, but an unguarded comment could mean disaster for McCain. This will be interesting to watch play out.

Elizabeth-Amherst, NY   September 16th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Jack,
It simply means that all of this Palin talk about being a “reformer” and someone who will bring “real change” to Washington is all just TALK. Not cooperating in this investigation means that Sarah Palin is a fast learner and has already learned from the current Administration that once in office they are above the law. Am I the only one who is just sick and tired of being lied to and taken advantage of by those who have been elected to serve us?!

Tresa   September 16th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Seems to me that if you really had nothing to hide, you would cooperate to the fullest. Jack, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and taste good with olub sauce…….chances are IT”S A DUCK!! Wait and see, it will come out!!

Mike Cassidy, Cleveland, Ohio   September 16th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

It’s an amazing flip-flop that Palin once “welcomed the investigation” and now that the pressure is on, she refuses to cooperate. It is sheer arrogance on Palin’s part to think she can hide behind the McCain campaign and expect to be exonerated for gross ethical violations simply because she is the VP nominee. When you refuse to cooperate in an investigation only after first supporting it means she knows an ethical violation occurred and won’t take responsibility for her actions.

DScott in Seattle   September 16th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Well Jack, it means that the GOP will do or say anything to win this election. Is a majority of the American voting public fooled by the endless stream of lies and half-truths that we’ve been witnessing as of late?
If so, we’ve got bigger problems than the McPanderer/Palin could possibly bring. I’m starting to feel like I’m trapped in the movie “Idiocracy”.

Doug from Bloomington IN   September 16th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Hi Jack. Welcome back.

It means quite simply that Palin is not a law-and-order-type of person. It is okay for her to abuse power, but not okay for those in Washington or elsewhere to do the same. However, once she arrives in Washington, should she win, then it will suddenly be okay there, too.

Palin will become part of the problem that is pervasive among those in power. She will be as corrupt as the rest.

We need to call her out on this! Stop treating Palin with so much sympathy out of fear of being sexist. She wanted to be in the game. Now that she’d in it, she can expect the same scrutiny as everyone else.

James From Chicgo   September 16th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Jack, I am so glad you are back. We need someone to stand up for the American people. Palin won’t cooperate because she has something to hide and she is LYING again. Everyday she is caught
in another lie. Obama has never lied in his campaign.

Kay in Ontario   September 16th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

She is guilty. If not, why would she not co-operate and clear her name?.
Maybe, she is afraid that one more lie will be added to all the other lies that she has been telling recently on the campaign trail .

Scott - Wichita, Kansas   September 16th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Sends the wrong message, Jack. She should just cooperate to show that she can handle the partisan fighting that she’ll have to endure at the top.

marian, nj   September 16th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Considering that a week ago she was going to cooperate fully with the investigation in Alaska, and now she isn’ t, that would make her a flip-flopper with something to hide.

Shirley -AK OHIO   September 16th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

It means that she fired her public safety commissioner because he did not fire her brother -in-law. Palin’s refusing to cooperate is hurting no one but herself. If she has nothing to hide or if she feels she did nothing wrong she should cooperate. If the McCain-Palin ticket becomes so lucky as to win the Presidency and Vice Presidency history will have been made for the oldest president, the first woman vice president and the impeachment of a vice president. Can you impeach a vice president?

Tim Gelvin   September 16th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Robert, Fort Lauderdale   September 16th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Palin not cooperating shows her guilt but mainly that Republicans would continue to break the law while being dismissive of law enforcement.

Jay-Mississippi   September 16th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Jack; why on earth if you are innocent wouldn’t you cooperate, especially if you are a governor? What it appears is that there is more to the story than meets the eye. It means that perhaps if the whole story comes out, Mrs palin will not be as likeable especially to her base. It may mean that McCain’s judgement will appear defective. Both have admitted that he truelly only picked her as a political stunt to win.

DScott   September 16th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

MW/ Newman, CA   September 16th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

It means that she thinks that she is above the law. Palin admits that she had her husband call the safety commissioner to complain about her sister’s husband. Palin should have filed a police report if she was really concerned. And by not using the legal system to try to resolve this so called problem, she looks guilty of abusing her power by trying to resolve this so called problem by having her husband and staff attempt to intimidate the commissioner.

Susan from Georgia   September 16th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

This blows her transpaency claim right out of the water! This investigation began in July, and now McCain and company is blaming Obama backers. How stupid. Her credibility is zip, nada, nothing! When she interviewed with Cahrles gibson, she welcomed, now McCain and Company are trying to cover up their obviously flawed pick!

Annie Kraft Naples FL   September 16th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

it means that she certainly is dishonest about this investigation and makes one wonder what else she is hiding….she was never properly vetted and McCain certainly is NOT forthcoming about anything..

Brad   September 16th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

Its simple Jack. She is being told what to do and say and the strategy is to delay the investigation until after the election. In the meantime, the republicans can just keep telling everyone to stop picking on their poor female candidate.

I can’t imagine why, unless of course, they are worried that a political corruption indictment might actually wake up the evangelical crowd that has been in a collective swoon since she was enthroned in the VP spot. Yesterday afternoon when McCain said our economy is “fundamentally strong” and got slammed by the media for saying it, and some even compared him to Hoover, then by last night, the McCain campaign releases that “Palin will not cooperate with troopergate”…DISTRACTION from McCain’s blunder in the afternoon.

McCain can’t win on the issues so he will try to win through “distraction and lies”.

Tasering your stepson just because he wanted to try it out? PLEASE. Now since she is refusing to cooperate with the investigation it is making me wonder all the more. Also why is she hiding from hte press. I mean she is acting like she is Britney Spears or something. Shouldn’t she be talking to yall so the country can get to know her?

Nothing. Don’t get your hopes up on this. People will understand it as a family squabble and that will be all.

Palin is the rock star now and swing voters will flock to the Rep ticket. She came along just at the right moment for McCain, as Obama’s newness and celebrity fades, and now he can’t close the deal. Perhaps now you understand how many of us felt when the hysteria was all about Sen. Obama?

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   September 16th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

I think that Biden had it correct when he called McCain-Palin a bad sequel to a horror movie! The only error is that Palin is trying to take over the starring role as she has more in common with Bush than McCain…which is a truly scary proposition!!!

Rob Winnipeg Canada   September 16th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Jack, I’d suggest it is because she wants to delay this thing until after the election since it would appear that there could be some truth behind the rumors. Unfortunately this refusal will cause a brighter light to shine on this in the meantime. She should have quietly just kept saying she would fully cooperate. This refusal could turn out to be a larger problem then if she had just cooperated.

Tom Huntington,NY   September 16th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

It means that she is a Republican. They have long history of stonewalling from Richard Nixon right up through Karl Rove. She welcomed the investigation before she was picked as McCains running mate. She won’t sit for interviews or hold a press conference either. All of this makes me wonder…What does she have to hide??

Donna Thomas   September 16th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

It’s one warning signal among many. When Governor Palin’s aides are not allowed to testify in “Troopergate” or speak to the media, when Governor Palin’s appointments to important and high paying positions in the State of Alaska reads reads like a Who’s Who from her high school class vs. a Who’s Who of the most qualified candidates, when she is the only 1 of the 4 Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees who is delaying release of her tax records, and when she continues to espouse she’s against earmarks when she’s accepted $200 million in them, then those who choose to vote for her are deserving of the second coming of George W. Jack,

It means that she knows that she will be exposed to either redicule for her immature behavior if she tells the truth or to being revealed as a liar if she doesn’t tell the truth. I strongly recommend that she continue with the sleazy instructions that Rove has given her and stonewall, stonewall and stonewall! Remenber the adage, ” It is better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool than to speak and confirm it”.

Straight talk express my a@##*. She is as guilty as hell.
What is she planning to do in washington?

Stacy from Loudoun County VA   September 16th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Jack, I believe in the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. But I also believe that if you are innocent, you should have nothing to hide. When an elected official, be it a small town mayor or the president of the United States, starts hiding and deflecting, that leads me to believe that “where’s there’s smoke there’s fire”.

She stated that she would cooperate a few days ago only to rescind that offer blaming Obama’s campaign despite the fact the investigation started long before she was part of the campaign. Blaming, cover-ups, and non-transparency lead me to believe that she is hiding something.

I am not a political pundit, but I am a thinker (thanks Glenn Beck)…

Cathy, Illinois   September 16th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

Usually it means you have something to hide. She may have been able to get away a few shenanigans in a low-focus investigation in Alaska. Now that it’s been brought to the national attention, slipping out of it won’t be that easy. So, it certainly makes the whole situation look much more suspicious.

JS   September 16th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

It means that even before the election she is playing by the republican rules, she must have studied Cheney 101. Why would anyone vote for a candidate that has not been vetted, Obama has been vetted for the last 18 months, they have tried to find skeletons in his cupboard, have invented skeletons & he has not whined once.

Pliny,
Palin is in a no-win situation. If she cooperates with a politically biased investigation it will be used as a weapon against her. If she doesn’t cooperate then she looks as if she has misconduct to hide. The secrecy surrounding Obama’s time in Chicago with people like Ayres creates the same sort of bad smell. In the end I don’t think it will matter for either candidate because people have become so jaded about corrupt politicians.

Dear Jack,

It means the Cheney mentality is alive and well. Just the thought of another four, even eight years of this foolishness puts me off my feed!

Steve

PS, my favorite CNN.com headline of the day: “Bush lands in Texas; Residents urged to leave” At least *that* was a good laugh.

Brandon, Colorado Springs, CO   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

It means McCains campaign team is willing to do or say (”will not cooperate as long as the investigation “remains tainted.”) just about anything to make Obama, his campaign team and any of his supporters (campaign insists the investigation has been hijacked by Democrats) look just as ridiculous as they do.

Marva (Oklahoma)   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Duhhhh! She knows that she is guilty of abusing her power as governor for personal reasons! The more that is uncovered about this woman, the more frightening she appears. She, obviously, does not permit anyone to stand in the way of her “succession up the ladder”. Really interested in “reforming” the government? Yeah, right!!

Kenny in Va.   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Well, if the current trend in the polls is any indication, it means another four years of Bush-style government based on secrecy & paranoia.

Donna   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

It means she is guilty as sin……simple as that……she fits right in with John McCain and this administration…..LIARS…..

Festus, Montana   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Jack, it means that Sarah Palin is doing what the Republicans are
notorious for: Hiding Something. But she is not acting alone. The
republicans behind the curtain are pulling her strings. Jack, Sarah
Palin reminds me of a cult follower. The only thing missing are a
basket of flowers and a pair of Birkenstocks.

Gina in Racine, Wi   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

It means that she has something to hide.

It also means that with her not cooperating with Investigations and also with the secrecy she surrounds herself and family with….we are seeing more and more that she (like McCain) are looking more and more like George “W” Bush.

Let the voter’s beware.

Conor in Chicago   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

It means we shouldn’t ask her any tough questions that might suggest that she isn’t who she advertizes herself as because that would just be the elite liberal media being sexist and promoting the liberal agenda which apparently includes wanting to loose in Iraq, passing out abortions to all who apply, and having the gaul to suggest that McCain being a former POW doesn’t qualify him for the highest office in the land. Seriously Jack just give it up. At this point you could point out that Palin was Caucasian and you’d be called a rascist.

Jan NY   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

It means guilty. Something to hide. More revelations of misdeeds to come. She is not squeaky clean. She is just another politican with a great deal of baggage accumulated in a short history in politics. It means you can fool some of the people all of the time. I rest my case.

Kevin, Chester Springs PA   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

If she has nothing to hide, she should answer the questions. So not cooperating says to me she played a large part in troopergate. And it’s quite simply a stall so that nothing comes out before the election. Just part of the McCain campaign strategy to sequester Palin as much as possible from the press and anyone else who will ask her the tough questions. Quite frankly, it’s an embarrassment that Palin was even chosen and nominated as the Republican VP. And how anyone can argue she is qualified is beyond me. God help us all if McCain gets elected and something happens to him and she becomes president.

Jane M, S.Orange NJ   September 16th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Welp if you ask me, sounds like she has something to hide…

Victoria from Cleveland   September 16th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

I just wish McCain’s group had done a little more research before choosing her. What does it mean? It means that she must have something to hide afterall and is using the excuse that Democrats have tainted the investigation. Remember, this all started BEFORE she was nominated. It appears she is just another “do as I say not as I do” Republican. Why doesn’t she get Tina to go in her place? She’s a much better actress.

Larry from Georgetown, Texas   September 16th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

She’s as guilty as the little boy who stole a cookie from the cookie jar and won’t cooperate because she’s afraid the truth will come out before Nov. 4th.

joseph jacir, chapel hill NC   September 16th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

It simply means she is stonewalling …She obviously has something to hide and the McCain mafia are sheltering her for fear the gine will get out of the bottle before november 4,,,,,It seems our 2008 elections has turned into a circus thanks to the gullible voters who go for lies.

dennis from Albuquerque   September 16th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

Jack, to me it means that Palin is more akin to the Bush Administration than to John McCain. The audacity of not cooperating is the same as the abuse of executive privilege we have seen for the past 7 years.

Howard M. Bolingbrook IL   September 16th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

tampa, fl. like all of the rest of our politicians, she is above the law and will not be held accountable for anything. and our politicians wonder why we independent voters are just plain fed up with this garbage. i demand that none of the above be placed on all ballots and whenever anyones approval rating goes under 30% an automatic recall should be mandated. i can divorce my wife if her approval rating goes to less than 30% so why not my congressmen or president as well?

Jeff   September 16th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

I have an idea. If Gov. Palin continues to be uncooperative into this investigation, arrest her and put her in jail. It seems as if she has something to hide. It is tragic that so many people in this country have been blinded to the fact that McCain pulled the wool over many American citizens’ eyes. The man is incompetent, clueless, and rapidly approaching senility when it comes to his views on running this country if he is elected. The man is George Bush, the second. This country is trillions of dollars in debt. To cover up the warts in his personna, McCain chooses a virtual unknown in Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Millions of women in this country, apparently clueless to be blunt, have fawned over Sarah Palin. They see this woman who has had five children, the last of whom suffers from Down’s Syndrome, and who very much is the “Working Mom”. Women power! Hello, people. Grow a brain stem! Are you all blind as to see that McCain would be an utter disaster as our President? Sarah Palin, also, would be equally incompetent to be the second in command, and a heartbeat away from being Commander in Chief. If she were to become President, what is she going to do, appoint all of her former Alaska high school classmates to important cabinet positions, (similar to what she has done as governor)?
The country made a monumental mistake in re-electing Bush to serve 4 more years in office back in ‘04. The country has plunged into further economic chaos. Are we plain ignorant enough to repeat our mistakes, and elect the McCain-Palin ticket to head this country in the fall? If so, we have no one to blame but OURSELVES for our own stupidity! Wake up, America!

Darlene PA   September 16th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Gov Palin repeatedly said she is for Ethics reform. If this is the truth, and not just a stump speech she should order ALL Government Employees in Alaska to help the bipartisan commission get to the bottom of this issue. If she has nothing to hide then why hide the facts from the American People?

Keith - Halifax, NS   September 16th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

It means that like McCain, Palin is controlled by Republican machine and has to do what she is told.

J.C. from Raleigh, NC   September 16th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Jack,
It means the McCain machine has advised her to stonewall it, hoping that the election occurs before anything harmful comes to light. See how reform-minded the McCain/Palin ticket really is? Nixon must be smiling down on them.

Julie Ward   September 16th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

It shows something is rotten in the state of Denmark, Jack. If she is truly innocent and has nothing to do with the firing, she should proudly come forward and cooperate. She should use this to her advantage; she has been wrongly accused and shall be victorious. But instead she is running as far away as she can from the situation. Not very pit bull-like.

Mark-Indianapolis   September 16th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

what does it mean? i am not sure there is enough time on your show this afternoon to contemplate the ramifications of this action.

For starters it clearly shows she has learned her lessons well from Bush/Cheney/Rove debacle; and the same can be said for McCain and his cronies. how ludicrous to claim the investigation is tainted.

so much for the term transparent and open.

It boggles one’s mind to think that this mind-set is apt to be a heartbeat from the presidency. makes one truly wonder what else there is in hiding.

It means a third term for Bush. How many subpoenas have the Bush administration thrown in the garbage. They shredded the Geneva Conventions, blew a hole through Habeas Corpus and started a war with a country that did not attack us, based on lies a cooked intelligence.
It means that a McCain/Palin administration would break the law when it suits their purpose.

For the same reason Rove, Cheney, and anyone remotely connected to them will not honor congressional subpoena’s. The same reason Nixon would not cooperate with the Watergate investigators. The same reason Bush would not produce, and in fact destroyed his Air National Guard records. Laws are for suckers like us. They don’t really apply to Republicans in power. Anyone who thinks they should answer for their misdeeds is obviously partisan. And in the case of Palin, probably sexist, too.

Eileen Vivoda   September 16th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

Won’t cooperate with the investigation, turns out ‘The Bridge To Nowhere’ was killed in Washington, but the Governor snatch the body parts to be used across Alaska and thought no one would follow-up, add the trip to Iraq that was really a border stop, and yes! the view of Russia from Alaska as the core of her foreign policy experise….give me a break. This is the biggest politcal sham foisted on a people for a generation.

Raj, Toronto   September 16th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Stonewalling just like the Bush Administration has done in its countless scandals, will someone talk about the similarities between the way she would govern compared to Bush, more of the same is not just a phrase but a fact.

She has also hindered investigations, supports a war without any waver, hires people in her administration from a friends list like Gonzalez and Fema Gate, she supports the same right wing neo conservative values as Bush and McCain, she does not work with democrats instead uses divisive politics and has the same experience that Bush had going into the election.

She won’t answer questions from the media, instead she spins and uses newspeack in describing her policies, Bush policies, and Democrat policies.

When she answers questions, you get the feeling that she does not know what she is talking about, instead uses 2 or 3 common lines for all the issues we face as a problem. She thinks solutions that work in Alaska will solve a coming depression in the whole nation, and solve international global conflicts.

Patsy Hodges   September 16th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

It sounds to me like a premature, mini, “executive privilege”
order from John McCain, and that should wake people up!
Blaming Democrats for this crass decision just doesn’t hold

It only means that she is not foolish enough to step into the trap that the Obama camp is trying to set for her. Aren’t Obama & his wife big-city lawyers as well? Interesting.

I think I speak for many residents in the Ohio Valley region when we say that we really don’t care about what’s happening to the Pres. or VP candidates for the last couple of days as most of us (yes, we in Ohio also) have been recovering from the remnants of Hurricane Ike. It looks like all of the news networks have totally forgotten the people of the Midwest and have not even empathized with many as we have been stuck with a lot of devastation in this once in a 100 year event. Remember, we too live in the United States.

Raymond Duke/Gatesville,Tx.   September 16th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

What it means jack is that the Obama camp and the democrat leadership is trying to fix the election. It means the same thing as Obama did to eliminate his black adversaries in the state of Illinios in which he used lawyers to get them off of the ticket. It will not work here with the republicans and the majority of the american people. Hey Jack when are you going to take your baised tail and ask the question what happen to the million dollars of fraud scam that Obama and His terriost friend Ayers run on the people in Chicago. Marie Ontario   September 16th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Well Jack ordinarily I don’t read the garbage rags like the National Enquirer but their record of accountability on their stories about high profile people is very good as they make sure of the facts to avoid being found guilty of liable.

The Enquirer has stories on the Palin family that shows them to more disfunctional than how Ozzie Osbourne’s family is portrayed and this will all come out in the open as they are just dragging out the whole truth to bolster their paper sales.

As of now I think they have Sara by the short hair and will reveal a lot more troubling stuff about her than just her abuse of power but for now the Republican motto of “WE ARE ABOVE THE LAW” will have to suffice for troopergate.

Michael "C" Lorton, Virginia   September 16th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Jack: Sarah once describe herself as a hockey mom to a pitbull….and the difference was lipstick. Now she refuses to cooperate with the troopergate investigation , which means, she is a pitbull with no legs; It doesn’t matter how many times you call her, she ain’t gonna come.

When she says it is “tainted” with Democrats, it means that she can’t charm them, or say that since Bush, Rove, Cheney, Ashcroft, etc. didn’t even obey a Congressional supoena, why should she cooperate. If it were a Democrat saying that, the Republicans would be all over it, insinuating all kinds of dire things. When one of their own does it, it is refusing to cooperated with a tainted investigation. In any case, considering that the anti-Palin rally in Alaska was bigger than the pro-Palin when she went home to see her son off (a bigger PR stunt I’ve NEVER seen — and one guaranteed to paint targets on every person in the battalion!), I think there must be something rotten in Alaska!

I don’t know what it means, but I don’t like it. It raises suspicions that she’s hiding something. I for one say, “thanks but no thanks” to more doubts about a candidate’s credibility.

This was a bipartisan effort, started before she was picked for the VP candidate, she spouted “transparency” in government, then her husband had to be subpoenaed, its looking like she is going to end up being subpoenaed too, and if she doesn’t show, get a US Marshall to go get her and drag her azz back to the hearing. She is not above the law and maybe she has to learn that fact. If she has nothing to hide, why not talk to the investigators, who BTW, are a majority of Republicans.

it means she’s incompetent, and she has something to hide, if she didn’t have anything to hide why not let them question her, i can’t stand her and all the press the madia gives her, she’s not worthy

Simple Jack. That she is guilty or has something to hide. You remember a Vice President who would not attend a subpoena by the Senate Committee on Wire Tapping? Dick Cheney. This just means that if McCain wins, she will just be the same: McSame, DickSame, BushSame or SarahSame.

It means she has learned the lessons of the Bush administration: use and abuse your power, clam up when you are called on it, and simply ignore any attempt by the legal community to learn the truth and/or hold you accountable. She is the last person we need in the White House (in any capacity) following the current administration.

Jack: First, our family’s prayers go out to Carol, you and the family. Candles are lit, condolences sent.
2. In our system, you do not have to cooperate; you just cannot lie and are unlikely to be able to conceal. So it means nothing!

3. I am more concerned that she vetoed a bill to help keep troubled teens off the streets in Anchorage and opposed an earmark for special emphasis on sex crime prosecution, both supported by Monegan, a career top cop. Earmarks are not a dirty word. It is probably local gov’t malpractice not to ask Washington for the money back for special projects that the locals cannot afford after large tax takings by the feds. Just be careful for what you ask for and ask intelligently. I am not misled or distracted. I am voting for Obama.

Jack,
She is stone walling the investigation in order to keep the story in the news for the free media coverage it is getting or this holy sainted mother did abused her powers as the State’s Governor and is trying to hide it until after the Election…

It means that she is perfectly qualified to continue the policies of this Administration…can you say “Executive Privilege”? Obviously she is not a new kind of politician…just more of the same.
