Jack Cafferty isn’t here today for the Cafferty File because of some tragic news.

His wife of 35 years, Carol, passed away unexpectedly this morning. Carol was everything to Jack. The dedication of his book reads, “for Carol, my wife, my life.”

Jack wrote about how she was the inspiration for him to get sober and straighten up his life: “In all the years that we’ve been married, she has always brought to the table her unshakable grounding in something a lot more real than being on television or being recognized in the corner drugstore. She has been my rock, having done a magnificent job of keeping me from getting full of helium and drifting off the surface of the earth… She was all the incentive I needed to make painful but transforming changes – to get sober and stop smoking. I knew that I’d lose her if I didn’t. She’s an amazing woman who simply wasn’t worth losing.”

One story Jack loves to tell is how he and Carol met – when he was a local news anchor in Kansas City. They started to meet regularly for a quick meal between his shows and became good friends. Whenever Jack had to leave, his exit line was “We’d better wrap this up. Got to get back to the station.” One night Carol finally asked, “What kind of a gas station do you work at? You’re always wearing a tie.”

Jack explained it was a television station. He loved the fact that she had no clue and couldn’t care less that he had been on air there every night for four years. He later described that as one of his life’s “twenty-four-carat moments” that made his heart soar. He said to himself then that he might marry her because “it can’t get any more honest and pure than that.”

Our deepest sympathies go out to Jack and to their two daughters, Leslie and Leigh. Our thoughts are also with Jack’s other two daughters, Julie and Jill, and his grandchildren.

Carol was an animal lover. If you’d like to make a donation in her memory, the family asks you give to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. You can contribute at aspca.org.

Tina Steimle   September 5th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Dear Jack,

Oh, how sorry I am for your terrible loss. In times like these words are insufficient, but may the wonderful memories of your great love bring you equally great comfort. I heard that the late Tim Russert once asked a friend who had just experienced a great loss, would you have rather had him for a short period of time, or not at all? The answer of course is always the same, when confronted with this painful choice. we would all rather have the people we love even for a short period of time because they transform our lives and bring us incredible happiness. They anchor us in the best way possible. But the pain when they leave us must be unbereable.

I knew Jack that you must’ve had someone strong and wonderful behind you because in the “Cafferty files,”you always act confident and secure in who you are without caring whether you score points with the “big shots” or not. That’s because you knew that you had the biggest shot possible at home. And she loved you.

God bless you, friend. I am sorry.

Heartfelt Condolences.

Jack, I just read on a blog that your beloved wife Carol untimely died a sudden death.
(Don’t know how to reach out to you other than to your blog from Germany, where I’m right now.)

I really know how you feel and suffer from this incredible loss because my (second) wife untimely and unexpectantly died all of a sudden on a Sunday afternoon in her office, just two years ago, having been a German Local National (Police Liaison Specialist) for the USArmy Military Police for more than 30 years of US Government Service. So I know what I’m talking about.

This is such a tremendous loss, turning everything upside down from one second to the next – and leaving Nothing as it used to be. Just horrible.

I must admit I’m not good at prayers. But my heart, from the very bottom of it, goes out to you.
I hope and dearly wish you’ll be strong enough to mentally and physically ’survive’ this tragedy – as I think (not yet being quite sure of a final result) I so far, somehow, managed to do.

Once again, my heart goes out to you.
And I wish you strength to overcome. Carol, your beloved late wife, would want it that way.

Embracing you in my thoughts.
Rudi from Florida
(A Permanent Resident in the US of German origin)

I know that you are devastated at this time. Hold on to your children and you all be strong together for one another and for her.

Deepest sympathies and much respect.

Jack – I am so sorry to hear of your Carol’s sudden passing today. My thoughts and condolences to you and your family at this sad time. She must have been the one who made you into the lovable curmudgeon that you are. Jack and Family,

It is with such deep sorrow to express how I’ve been touched by the sudden passing of your dear wife. May the peace of God abide with you and the family and may His grace comfort you. You will find the strenght to continue to do the great job you’ve ably carried out at CNN. I’m glad that you have been blessed with such a loving wife and a pillar many a man would pray to have in a woman. I’ve been equally blessed by God to have a wife like yours for 30 years. She’s kind and loving. I must confess that I would not be much today if I had married another woman. She supports me more than I can ask for in time of plenty or drought.
You know Jack, when the demons in our world preside over the spoils of wars and greed, the mostly young people and many responsible adults who listen to your progressive statements would remember and learn that you’ve been touched by an angle in your life. You believe that America can be better. Much love to you from me and family.

I am disturbed about repeatedly hearing of McCain’s P.O.W. experience as though it somehow makes him more patriotic than Obama. Obama’s quiet service to the poor is no less heroic than McCain’s military service. It is, in fact, as much a sacrifice to give up a lucrative career to help the poor as it is to lie in a prison halfway around the world. I am not belittling McCain’s service, but I am tired of him and his machine belittling Obama’s. The thing with McCain’s torture experience is that it makes people emotional…flag-waving emotional. But all Americans should equally respect Obama’s decision to get down in the ditches to help people in a poor community…when there were no cameras around and no hopes of receiving a medal or “hero” title. Barak Obama’s service to his country is at least as patriotic as McCain’s.

Luba Makowsky   September 5th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

I am from Toronto Canada and watch you every day. I just heard Wolf make the announcement of the passing of your wife Carol. I was already very sad today, as it is the anniversary of my best friend’s death and then to hear of your wife’s passing just broke my heart for you.

The only insight I can give you, even though it will not be understandable right now for you, but time is the only healer in the loss of the love of your life. When it first happens you cry every day every minute. This lasts for months, and your daily thoughts of the love one that is gone. But as months, years, go by the crying, the pain, the thoughts become easier to deal with. But you can never forget that love of your life. Just as I shed a tear for the loss of my love I shed a tear for the loss of your love.

Be strong Jack, find your strength within yourself, lean on your children and friends, and allow yourself to grieve.

My sympathies to you and your family and your wife’s family for the loss of your loved one. May she rest in peace and be in a better place than here.

Regards, Luba

As someone who knows what it means to be blessed with such a partner, I can’t imagine what it means to lose her. But I can imagine that she felt as blessed as you did, and together you spread your light amongst those around you. May you find peace and joy amidst the sorrows and remember that love endures. It always endures.

Barbara Domingos   September 5th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Dear Jack,

I am so sorry you have lost the love of your life. No one knows your pain.

When I lost my very best friend (not the same as losing a wife) the one thought that finally helped was to remember I was so blessed to have known my friend for the time I did than to not have known him at all.

I’m sure for every tear there’s a bucket of memories to help keep Carol’s love and life alive in your heart. May you find the strength in her memory.

My best,
Barbara Domingos

Jack I love reading about how your wife didn’t know you were on television! I can see that you truly love your wife and the simple fact that she stayed married to you for 35 yeart that you made her happy and proud of your ever accomplishments.

Jack you had someone so special as I read this blog the words of Eugene Peterson came to my heart.

Most of the time, what we need to help us through the struggles in our lives is not the advice of an expert but the wisdom of a friend.

I can see that you both were real friends God bless you Jack in your loss.

Dear Jack,
I was ready to say some very angry words to you about your digs at the Republican Party. However after reading about your wife’s passing, I knew this was not the time.
Anger and arguements should not enter into a persons time of distress. I pray that you will find a peace in your wife Carol’s passing.
Everything happens for a reason, and just know that God wanted her Home now.
I became a widow 10 years ago, after 45 years of marriage. I can’t even say I feel your pain. I have not walked in your shoes. I walked in my own. Every marriage has a special story and I know that yours is special. May God Bless you and may He bring you a peace that passeth all understanding.
God Bless You!

I applaud and respect Sarah Palin’s ambition and achievements. However, I do not believe that our “desired standards” should be relaxed at our highest level. She is in the throes of a personal family crisis that should NOT be played out publicly We are all aware that teenage pregnancy is a problem. But I find it amazing that the most unlikely folks suddenly thinks out-of-wedlock sex/pregnancy is fine and that marriage for an uneducated 17 year old is to be commended. What a standard of aspiration for all young girls of America and around the world! I cannot imagine how this “hockey mom” would think that this is an admirable image (and image does matter) and I cannot imagine the added horror her daughter is experiencing. In his act of frenzied desparation, John McCain disregarded moral implication and perception.

I’m not a religious person, but the words written of your loss reminded me of this old song:

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

Best wishes and condolences to you and your family. Karen.

Mr. Cafferty-
A man is measured by those who would grieve with him. Today thousands of people are grieving with you. Your wife was a very smart lady to have married such a good man. I’m sure she was very proud to be Mrs. Cafferty.

I hope that you find the strength to get back to work soon. Our country needs you as you are one of the few remaing voices of sanity on cable TV news.

Susan Frost   September 5th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your wife. You and your family are in my prayers, and as a fellow animal lover, I’ll make a donation to the aspca in her memory. (We did the same thing two years ago when my mother died) God be with you always.

My wife and I will celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary tomorrow, September 6th. Knowing the love and affection of a spouse, and having children, is the most wonderful thing two people can experience in life. We offer our condolences and prayers to you and your children. God bless you and help you get through this tragic time.

Your wit and righteous outrage have helped keep me sane over the past several years. I wish I could offer something equally helpful to you, in addition to my very deepest sympathy.

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. This is my first time on your blog and I just wanted you to know that your segment is thought provoking and I appreciate it. Keep doing the great work that your wife has inspired you to do. Thanks!

Jackie in Dallas   September 5th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Jack:
There is nothing anyone can say to help ease the pain of losing someone you love…and loved as long as you did Carol. I think that the majority of those of us who follow your blogs, no matter what our personal beliefs and politics, would love to be able to take just the smallest amount of the pain away — but there is no way we can. Hopefully, just the sheer numbers of people responding will help, in a small way, remind you that there are many others who care about you.

You are in our thoughts, our prayers, and our hopes that you can make it throught this dark night of your soul. As John Donne once wrote:
——————————————————————————–
DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think’st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
….
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell’st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.
——————————————————————————————-
Bless you and keep you and your children safe.

Jack, I like your show…I’m a 53 year old white republican and since viewing you and Lou Dobbs…I’ve become independent – - – But, I’m going to vote for Obama-Biden because I believe Obama is telling the truth about CHANGE that will unite all Americans. I used to make over 100,000 3 years ago – but after batteling Breast Cancer and Bone Cancer I have nothing left after 35 years of work and I’m one of the luckier ones in life!!!

I was married 22 years…I know what loss is. My heart goes out to you and your family…I’m so sorry for the loss of your wife and friend!!!
Please come back soon and help us get someone elected that cares about all of us! Thank You. God Bless You Always!

Jack, I’m terribly saddened by this news…You’re truly a breath of fresh air with your opinions and questions on the Cafferty File. You’ve been on fire recently, when it came to Gov Palin. I mourn you and your families loss and wish you the best in the tough days to come.

Irene Jagla   September 5th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Dear Jack Cafferty,
My name is Irene Jagla and I am writing on behalf of my family–my mother, Barbara; my father, Chris; and my 16 year old brother, Alex.
The Jagla household just hasn’t been the same without you these past couple of days. I live in Washington D.C. now, but I call my family in Round Lake, Illinois, almost everyday and for the past few days there has been a lot of complaining, and not just about the RNC. The family has been wondering, “Where is Cafferty? Why isn’t he reading emails and delivering poignant political commentary?” Today we found out that your wife passed away and we just want you to know that we miss you and are keeping you and your family in our prayers. We know that your wife meant a lot to you and that you need time to grieve and heal. But just know that when you get back in front of the cameras, we will be on the other side of lens, in rapt attention, waiting for more of your wit and wisdom to guide us through a sometimes chaotic, confusing world.
Thank you! and God bless
–The Jagla Family

Stay strong and hurry back….you are missed!

Oh, Jack … I was positively shocked when I heard. I can’t imagine your grief. The feelings of a husband at a time like this are far different from those of children, even adult children. Stay close and strong for each other; let others reach out to you even if they don’t quite know what to say. I would also like to add that Wolf Blitzer’s announcement was as lovely as it could have been under the circumstances. And you have your CNN “family” at your side. Count on them.

Dear Jack…

In this most tender and grief-filled moment for you and your family, all the political spitfire and spinning that is getting tossed around must seem nothing short of absurb. There is nothing more important than how we love and care for one another, recognizing the strength and hope that comes from those bonds of connection. As you and your family hold each other during these difficult days, please know that there are many of us who invisibly walk by your side, offering our deepest prayers of care and concern. As for all this political stuff…well, unfortunately, all the remarkable biographies and one-up-man-ship rhetoric that won’t help anyone will still be here when you get back.

God’s comfort to you and yours…

felix   September 5th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Jack, I’m an avid viewer of the “Caffertyfile” on CNN. I became an avid viewer because of your insightfulness and straight talk on various subjects. I have tremendous respect for you. I am not an American but i certainly practice American values. You’re good man, a confident man, fair man and a very practical man. My personality caused me to suffer in the prior years, that’s until I started watching you. I ADOPTED your “straight talk” demeanor and it has brought me tremendous success in changing the way i present myself to people and the way i couduct myself overall. Thank you for being such and inspiration to my life. I never knew your wife but i’m sure she must have been a wonderful person just to be associated with you and far more being your better half. She has gone to be with her maker and now you’re left to carry on her legacy; one i’m sure will be remembered for years to come and never forgotten by those closest to her. Please accept my condolences for your loss. This will be a trying time for you both mentally and emotionally as your life long partner has passed on but please stay stong; i’m sure that’s what she would want. Good people like you and your wife are hard to come by and difficult when we lose them. She will always be with you in spirit and in truth, remember that when lonliness attempts to overwhelm you. You will have a friend in God in those trying times, just lean on him. Best wishes to you my friend, we need you to continue making a difference in our lives.

A loss of a dear one is indeed heart striken and no amount of emotions or words can really describe how you feel. Maureen Mather   September 5th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Jesus, Jack. Through the “wonders of television,” I, like millions of others, feel like I know you. You and your girls are in my prayers. It is always incredibly difficult to lose someone you dearly love. It is a particular challenge when that person is the one with whom you wake up, with whom you share your meals, your jokes, your innermost thoughts, your challenges and your triumphs. It is also a pain that is, I think, difficult at our time of life. You were extremely fortunate to have found Carol and fortunate to have had a pretty long run together. Not that that matters a hoot right now. I hope it helps a little to know just how many people you have never met and never will are holding you in their hearts and in their prayers now and in the days to come. God bless you and your daughters.

With my deepest sympathy,
Maureen Mather

I am sorry to hear Jack lost his wife. What a tragedy for anyone to lose a loving family member. My sympathy goes out to Jack and his family. However, asking people if they would like to make a donation to her cause is a little too much and in my opinion distastful. That should be left to her family, friends, and Jack’s co-workers not the viewing public. Jeanette Lewis, Hilliard Ohio

Very sorry to read about the loss of your best friend.
I was touched by your story about (soon to be) wife wondering what gas station you worked at when you always wore a shirt and tie and how you loved her honesty and innocence. I was reminded about a similar experience about my own wife when I was in the Navy driving on a naval base. My wife spied a bumper sticker on the car in front of us. The bumper sticker read: “Semper Fi” and she innocently asked me what sorority that was? Hold on to the humor you once shared.

My wife and I extend our condolences and prayers to Jack and his family. Jack has become a member of my family in the past year. Lacking a brother of my own I have adopted Jack, and we frequently have talks and yes, disagreements. But in the end, I can turn on my TV at 4:00 Monday thru Friday and Jack is usually there, ready to resume where we left off.
Unfortunately for Jack and his family, he can’t bring Carol back that easy. But I’m sure that the memories she leaves him will strengthen him during this time and the trying times to follow.
One day at a time, Jack.
We love you.

To Jack and your family; To say I’m sorry for your loss does not seem to be enough, but it will have to do. I am sorry for you, your children, and your grandchildren. Your wife seems to be more than a rock, she sounds like a precious gemstone. Keep the Serenity Prayer in mind during these dark days and know you have family, friends, and many fans pulling for you. My husband has a favorite poem called “The Station” stuffed in his desk somewhere. I’ll try to find it. For now, I will make a donation then give my son and our dog a hug! Suddenly, having to take the dog out in the rain seems like a privilege.

That is my sincere wish for you and your family Jack. I hope your pain lessens, but I wish you beautiful memories. May the Lord heal your heart. Take one day at a time and keep the faith.

So Very Sorry for Your Great Lose of Your Wonderful Wife.

My Thoughts and Prayers are out to You and Your Daughters.

Great Spirit, I am weak, as winter begins with spring and death begins with birth. Let Love, Understanding and Forgiveness be the trail I walk in the circle of life and bring me the Serenity and Peace of mind I need to Help my Family and Neighbors face the Tragity of Lose and the Suffering of Pain.

I too am a lover of Animals. I have 2 cats, Buddy I rescued from an animal foundation and Bootz I got from a family that found him and 4 other kittens with a dead mother. The kittens were about 2 or 3 days old. I also have contributed to the A.S.P.C.A.

Again Jack, My Very Best to You and Your Entire Family.

I will miss your absense from the Situation Room.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Jack, yet am grateful you had 35 transforming years with a woman you loved. In 1965, at the age of 19, I met a young Canadian hockey player in New York City. We married 23 days later and are still married. We were from different countries, cultures, religions, backgrounds, etc. and nobody said it would last. It lasted through many personal disasters because what we GAVE to each other far outweighed what we TOOK. And, I know for you, today you are remembering what Carole gave. I hope you will also remember what YOU gave, as well. For I’m sure for Carole that is what she remembers. Jeayn & Trevor Fahey

John Doty Evansville, IN   September 5th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

Mr Cafferty,
I am very sorry, nothing will fill the void. I never knew your wife, but in a way I did. I just asked my Mother to buy your book last week. I told her you were a special man, with a talent for being honest, in a world that lacks honesty, especially in politics. Mom had a drinking problem like you, many years ago, and she quit for my Dad, like you quit for your wife. It wasn’t about your drinking that I recommended your book, it was about the man that your wife and you made into a good man, and how you both shared that good man with his honesty to the whole world through this idiot box we call TV. Mom has been a TV news watcher since I can remember about 55 years ago. She knows a good reporter, and though she just started watching you, she has seen it already. So Promise me that you won’t let that wonderful wife Carol down. Take all the time you need, but when you are ready, you come back, and you be you and Carol, all the people out here that care will cheer you on. By then Mom will have read your book, and she’ll be shedding a tear like I am now. Sorry sir, you are a good man, and give a thanks to that wonderful woman for me, the love shows.

I am frozen, wordless. Needed to make an angry blog on the ugly race, but it all pales. Those of us who have had the Gift of a deep Love are wounded again by your loss. My Prince was taken also – sorry I have no coping secrets for you. Our hearts hold you.

reboho   September 5th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

I didn’t know Carol but if she helped to mold you into the man I enjoy watching on CNN then she was an exceptional human being. Often we never realize the person on the other side of the TV screen is real and has real relationships that effect who they are and in turn have an effect on we the viewers. My sympathies and thoughts go out to you and your daughters.

nitpicker   September 5th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

Jack,

With the advent of “celebrity journalism,” I’ve often felt a chasm growing between those of us out here in the so-called real world and those on the business end of a TV camera. You’ve remained an exception to that rule–a straight-shooting, no b.s. guy who clearly loves America and the people in it who are so often screwed by its government. Of all the people on the TV, you’re the one guy I feel like I know.

So, despite the fact I’ve never met you or your wife, I’m struck by this news as if the tragedy had befallen a close friend. It’s odd, I know, but it’s a testament to your character and, by extension, the character of a woman who must have been something to go toe-to-toe with you for so many years.

You will be remembered in my prayers.

I was indeed very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved wife Carol and as a regular viewer to The Cafferty File our prayers are with you. In a year of troubled times in America, it is refreshing to see some one like you Jack, who calls it the way it is. That is the problem in America, you need more straight shooters to keep the political hacks honest.
I have read your book, great stuff and as a retired Candadian who winters in Florida, I know you are a strong person and you will get through this most difficult time, just keep the faith. God bless you and your family and we look forward to your return to CNN.

Jack Cafferty is an extraordinary American. That doesn’t matter to him now, but it matters to the rest of us. I can’t imagine his pain. Life means loss; he was fortunate to have love for as long as he did. God bless you, Jack, and your family, who isn’t as well known but feels the loss just as much. I hope that when Jack and I go – and we will – that we will be as sorely missed. But for now, all the best, and thank you, and thank her. She must have been a hell of a woman to put up with you, and to help make you the voice for so many of us who need you.

Jack,
In these recent weeks of the presidential campaign I have turned to your blog for honesty and insight (along with some much needed humor) concerning the candidates and their VP’s. When I logged on to check your blog this morning and saw that there was only a message saying you weren’t in I was worried something might be wrong, but I never thought it might be the loss of your wife.
My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family.
I hope you can return to the Cafferty File soon but I more than understand if you can’t.
Again, you and your family will be in my prayers.

Jack, I cannot begin to express my sorrow for the loss of the love of your life. Words are completely inadequate.

I love you and look forward to seeing your segments every night on the Situation Room. In your grief, try to remember that you bring so much true joy and light into the everyday life of working stiffs like me. We will be praying for you and your family. Our thoughts will be with you during the empty months ahead.

Those of us out here in your television audience wish we could bring a smile to your face or a belly laugh to you during these next months of grief. You do so much to brighten our boring days; we only wish we could return the favor.

Being the mom of two adopted pets, Carol will be remembered by me and my life partner by a contribution to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL).

Anyone who could love Jack Cafferty for 35 years has to be an “animal” lover!

We all love you, Jack. God bless you and your family.

Dear Jack,
I am so, so sorry. You and Carol are too young to die. This is horrible, I’m devastated.
All the platitudes apply but I wont go on about how Carol’s spirit will live on in you.I know you feel as if you died, now.
Please know that I will be praying for you, that every day you grow a little stronger, a mite further along the road to recovery.
You will, but it’s wrong to even suggest it now.Life without your Carol won’t seem like life.

You know there are so many of us, praying for your consolation, and sending support..I hope this will be of some comfort in days ahead.
I’m a supporter of SPCA and have made a contribution in Carol’s memory.

Jack–
I lost my husband Eric in February to a massive heart attack. We had been married 35 years. I think I have an idea of how you’re feeling right now. I miss Eric more everyday. My best comfort has been in memories, the love and support of my family and friends, and the knowledge that I’ll be with him again some day. I’ll be thinking of you and praying for you in the days to come. I enjoy watching you everyday on the Cafferty File and adding my two cents when I feel strongly enough about something. Deepest sympathies to Jack & family.

I knew nothing about Carol but pieces fit together for me now. I have no doubt seen her influence many times by watching you, Jack. Your determination to cut through the yada yada nonsense and courageously tell it like you see it, no doubt comes from what your sweetheart Carol has taught you — do real.

No surprise that she was devoted to the realest around us — our animal friends.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Mr. Cafferty

Please except my families heart felt sorrow for the loss of your wife Carol. My wife Patricia and I have experienced death in our family on far to many occasions. The one thing that keeps us going is the memory of how our loved ones lived their lives to the fulliest.

Your honesty and integrity are a welcome site in our home every night.
I know there will be many lonely days ahead, but remember the good times you and Carol had and celebrate her life everyday.

May God Bless you, your children and grand children.

On many occasions I do not agree with Mr. Cafferty and his opinions on politics. However today is a day to put our differences aside as on behalf of my family and the rest of Canada, we wish Jack our condolences in the passing of his wife and although we never really get over the loss of a loved one, our hearts go out to Jack .

Sheryl   September 5th, 2008 9:16 pm ET

Jack:

I am so sorry to hear about your wife. You have my deepest sympathies, as do your and Carol’s two daughters, Leslie and Leigh. And your other two daughters, Julie and Jill, and and your grandchildren.

I also lost my wife a couple of years ago. There is nothing worse than loosing someone you love, and nobody more so than your wife. You can take comfort in the fact that she isn’t suffering anymore. I know that it gives me comfort.

I lost my wife after only eighteen months of marriage, but it doesn’t hear any less. Please know that your viewers care.

Winston Taylor   September 5th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Jack, you are in my prayers. Let me prove it to you… I heard Nancy Grace commenting that your wife passed, and my heart broke. I rushed to the computer to find the report, and my wife asked. “Honey answer me honestly. Do you really care that this man’s wife died?” I told her yes. She asked, “Why?” I asked her to think about the fact that I spent more time with you and the CNN and MSNBC news team than her, and she said, “true”. In other words I told her that you are a part of our family!!!! I cry with you and your children tonight, I share your pain. No we have never met, and probably won’t— but I want for you to know that you are genuinely part of our family. My prayers are with you and all of yours. May the God of peace grant you his eternal PEACE.

Oh, Jack I am so sad to hear the news of your wife, Carol, passing away. There’s not a day that goes by during the week that I don’t come over to the Cafferty Files and wonder what question you have for us to ponder.

I know the utter pain and agony you are feeling because I’m a widow. My husband died after a heroic 5-year battle with cancer. It shocked me when he passed away as every day he said he would beat it. That he was 7 years younger than me and we had been married for nearly 21 years made it even more difficult. Your angel, Carol, is now with my angel. We both now have our own personal angels in heaven.

Jack, every night, when I climb into our obviously too big king-size bed, I repeat this ancient Eskimo saying: Perhaps they are NOT stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine and let us know they are happy. Carol will now live on in the wonderful memories in your heart.

May that saying bring you some semblence of peace in the coming days. Please take the time to grieve, Jack, for grief is the price we pay for love. We will be waiting for you when you are able to return. Jack, you are OUR rock. You are able to ask the tough questions of the issues of the day, and for that I thank you. You are, and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Shelly   September 5th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Carol was one of the classiest women I have ever met . First Came the true love of her family. That stood out the most ,but she adored fashon and clothes and the way they made her feel. she always looked stunning and i will always remember many saturday afternoons chatting with you in BRAVA, while Carol shopped. she could have put a bag on and she still would have looked BETTER THAN ANY ONE ELSE IN THE STORE .You were both perfect pieces together. We will never forget her.

No one has mentioned the fact, since it came out sometime ago in this long race, that Michelle Obama (Baracks wife for those who do not know the woman trying to dance on Ellen Degeneris’s show), said
since her husband picked up the Democratic nomination, that she stated soon after that she was “Proud to be an American for the first time in her life”! Does anyone in America, who are by rights her proud citizens, realize what she has said in those few words? She is basically saying that no matter the fact that she was born in this free country (bought by many like John MaCain), that she is now only proud since her “african american” husband has been put in a position that makes her feel proud! She played the race card there and no one in white politics or black took the opportunity to jump on it. Race should not be a factor in weather we are proud to be American, rather it should be simply upon what we hold dear and that is freedom and liberty, not based upon the color of ones skin or how far up the ladder thay may have come.
God help us all if the statement that “True power lies behind the throne” holds true. If Obama gets elected we may be in for more than we expected.

I really couldn’t believe the news as Wolf spoke. God bless you & your daughters. Our hearts are with your family. Your loss is so great, but Carol is always with you & someday you will be together again. Do right by her in your continued character & strength. She is always with you, just in a different place, looking down on your & your daughters, still being a wife & mother. We miss you & hope to see you again soon.

Jack……My sympathy and pain go out to you and your family. I know what it’s like to have someone so carrying and loving. I lost my husband of 47 years 7 years ago. Early in our marriage, with 4 children, I succumbed to a severe mental illness. My husband stood by my side, thoughout the therapy, and my long road of recovery. He was left wondering when he came home from work on many days if I was alive. I was sucicidal at the time.

God bless you and keep up your good work on CNN.

Thanks….Joyce Foley

I was saddened to hear of your wife’s passing and you will be in my thoughts through this difficult time as will your family. It is so very hard to give up a loved one.

My husband passed away in 2000 and was 42 year sober. His greatest pleasure, as he battled cancer, was helping the local AA kids understand about sobriety. He was my hero. Remember that you are never alone with friends of Bill’s beside you and you are never alone with all of your viewing audience wishing you well.

1. People must make it personal and should not let anyone take it away from them.
