Jack, here we go again....another question thrown out about whether we should drill or not drill off the coast of Florida or in Alaska
NO NO NO NO. Are you listening? Is anyone listening? God is talking Jack....Do you not hear him? I am sure those folks out West must hear him. In The Book of Job in the Bible, we are told to listen to the animals, the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and they will tell us
much that we need to know. Jack, our environment is being raped for power and greed. Can you not see that? Jack, tell them to stop, look and listen. ,

Jack,
Drilling good or bad? Logic says bad, but what’s the bottom line? Neither McCane nor Obamas plan will help gas prices NOW, both plans will take years to see any benefits at the pump. The compromise is probably a version of both, drilling and producing more efficient transportation. We Americans need to be better stewards of our resources, slow down, take mass transit, whatever it takes, but my real problem with this is your Obama slant. Im not saying that you should stop pointing out pad policy or plans but rather point out good as well, same for Obama. I’m tired of hearing all the "bad policies" lets hear about some good ones. Equal time, Jack, bash both, praise both, but don’t make us think that McCane is the leader of an evil empire, while Obama gets a pass.

All the oil in ANWR and the Gulf of Mexico is only about 26 Billion barrels. At current US consumption of 20M barrels per day, that's less than 4 years supply. Of course it would reduce our dependence on foreign oil from 70% today to 65% if they were in full production. Whoopteedoo. That's enough to reduce the price of a barrel of oil from $130 to $129.25. Bush's and McCain's decision to drill has little to do with energy independence and everything to do with political pandering. This is just the beginning, we'll see a lot more "Greenwashing" of the facts from oil companies and politicians.

this is purley political, AGAIN! only a fool would believe that more drilling will bring down gas prices. that oil is money in the bank left in the ground, just imagine a future crisis and well, you get the idea.

I have been watching this debate for over twenty years, thats right I am and older American. Alternative fuels is the answer, not drilling, it would take to long to have and effect and get to market. Corn (ethanol) is not the answer, look at Iowa and Ilinois. Hydrogen is the highest rated answer its end result is water vapor. We have the technology, the innovative people to develop the processes, production, security and delivery to the market. Turn them loose to do what they do best.
This is America, still the land of opportunity.

No. Number 1 - more drilling will not do nearly as much as getting "oil men" out of the White House. Number 2 - most of us are making fewer trips to the gas pumps which is saving more oil than what more drilling will contribute. Number 3 - making our gasoline engines more effecient will contribute the most to lowering gas prices.

Jack, can political pandering be any more obvious? As a resident of south Florida, I have lived through periodic oil spills on the Atlantic coast where tons of oil tar spoiled the beaches, and our governor chooses to flip flop for McCain's campaign expediency. With Bush's speech today, it's evident this is nothing more than the right wing's last minute effort to give away leases to drilling on public lands before the new president takes office, when thousands of leases go unused. Oil is a commodity with future value, so why should the oil companies drill on their existing leases? Why not ask for more and hold on to them so when the price is really high, they can drill and then export it to China and India. Any American who thinks we will ever benefit from additional drilling is delusional. Jeff, Miami, Florida

Drilling for more oil is counter productive. It will lull people into a false sense of security by letting them believe that oil will last forever. No matter what, oil is a finite source of energy. It is clear that the only thing that can lower gas prices in the short term is a drop in demand. The oil company executives testified to that. At the rate China and India are growing, that's not going to happen. Therefore, American's need to get off their fat lazy duff's and find another source energy... also, it might help the country's waistline if they invested in a fleet of bicycles.
