That’s exactly what the voters are asking too. What gives Pelosi the right to decide to take it off the table when that’s why we voted in the Democrats in the first place. Now it’s time to vote all of them out the next time and vote in people who have not had time to get swayed by the $$ and do what the voters want. (Wouldn’t that be a switch!)

The Democrats cannot do this in an election year. It will fire up all the Republicans to vote for McCain. They should have done this two years ago. Hopefully they can just keep digging up how the White House totally misrepresents everything they get their hands on.

This is a no brainer. It’s an election year and Democrats are worried it will scare off the Republicans now poised to vote for them and Republicans are afraid they’ll lose what few votes they have left. In any case, the failure to impeach will be a stain on this nation’s history. Maybe it would have been different if there was a blue dress involved.

Too little, too late. This should have been done when it became clear we were lied to. But there was no way the republicans would let this happen and enough weak democrats to side with them.

It is a shame that we can impeach a president over a sexual lie and this president has the blood of millions on his hands and we stand by and let it happen.

As gratifying at Impeachment would be, it would do little to help America. Bush and Cheney are irrelevent lame ducks at this point.

Congress and the American people should focus their energies on cleaning up the huge pile of manure that the Bush Administration is leaving behind.

Once that is well under way, there should be a major effort to curtail the power of the Executive Branch. Under the last four presidents, it has become a bloated cancer on the United States.

It means that there are too many people in both the House and Senate that are failing to be true to the oath they took to uphold and support the constitution. Every one that help block sending the impeachment resolution to the committee should be voted out-of-office at the first chance.

It means it’s time to elect leaders who are going to stand up for their constituencies wants/needs/beliefs. Gas pices and new energy sources need to be addressed, yes. But a Bush/Cheney impeachment should have been taken into consideration long ago. Clinton was impeached for far less atrocious acts.

There are not enough Dems in the Senate or House to impeach Bush and remove him from office. The voters did not do a good job of voting in as many Dems in the last two elections (2004 and 2006).

Duhhh… It is because the Dems do NOT have the 67 votes in the Senate for conviction and removal from office!! Check the Constitution. Impeachment is NOT the same as removal – it’s like an indictment, the defendant always can be acquitted (like Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton). The Senate must try the impeachee, if they do not get 67 votes, the president stays in office. Even after all Bush and Cheney have done, I doubt they would get 20 votes against them.

In this case, Bush would celebrate such a failure to convict as affirmation of the “justness” of his regime. Do we really want that??????

It clearly looks like they don’t want to lose their cushy jobs. If congress doesn’t uphold the constitution, Jack, along with the executive and judicial branches, how does this bode for our future? It takes s-o-o-o much to impeach a president, as it should, that it really is too little, too late. Bush and Cheney have already calculated that they will survive the next few months. They’ll still have the national checkbook to spend as they want.

Pres. Bush has issued signing statements that have carefully absolved the current occupants of the White House from any impeachable offences. However, as it has been pointed out, that does not stop other countries from indicting them for war crimes.

After all ;they know all too well what bitterness the last attempt to impeach brought about. There is a reason that impeachment is a rare thing. It makes sense to not focus on the impeachment now, considering we’re swimming in the results of the bush/cheneys incompetence and have plenty of these issues to sort out. But why didn’t they pursue it in 2006 when the dems gained the majority?

It appears as if they realized how much resentment would continue to build toward the bush administration and now have a better chance of sweeping the house clean by putting all dems there to. Hopefully this strategy pays off and they can go on to make far reaching reforms to a lot of the failing policies that are currently in place.

An impeachment trial would take longer than the remainder of his term. It also would unite the Republican base.

Leave Lame Duck Bush where he is. Send him a minimum wage increase. Send him popular things that he opposes so he will veto them. This will provide ammunition for beating “John McSame”.

That’s the best way to make the most out of the situation.

Over 1 million voters have signed for the Impeachment of GWB. Why does Congress continue to ignore the voice of the American people?

That was a terrible strategic mistake on Pelosi’s part. She should have made it clear that if the wasted a lot of time by vetoeing bills, that impeachment would be the next thing brought up.

I don’t think that it represents a sideshow. I believe that it represents the Congress doing there job. This is something that should have been done a few years ago. I sat and watched Congressman Kucinich read each of these articles and I was so ashamed that this would be sent to die and also because it had taken so long to bring up such charges. It should have been BREAKING NEWS on all networks and it is sad, sad, sad that it wasn’t. Congress had better get the message that our Constitutional Democracy is at risk if one branch of Government won’t do its job–especially when the allegations are so provablely true. Both Cheney and Bush should be Impeached and removed from office. The Democrats had better wake up or they will be blamed for the end of Constitutional Democracy in the US–the WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING. What Kucinich did on Monday was in International papers all over the world–more than in US newspapers. Only CBS reported on the 35 Articles of Impeachment on Tuesday (in the TV media news). Nancy Pelosi made a huge mistake in taking Impeachment “off the table” and we all need to write our Congressmen/women to ask them to act on these articles. I did.

(1) Politicians are more concerned with their re-election then they are with the citizens of the United States; and

(2) Our government has failed. Both parties. No choosing sides here.

I always thought a democracy was a situation in which all citizens have a relative and equal chance to affect the making of decisions that effect their lives. (Politics of Power). Apparently I was wrong.

It appears that the current definition of a democracy is a situation in which elected representatives dangle promises to remain in office while making more money than citizens, having better health care than citizens, and remaining above the law when it comes to illegal activities.

Change is needed. By someone. Now. Too bad the politicians have no back bone.

Impeach Bush? Since Congress has the power to vote down any bill presented by the President, and the power to override any veto by the President – to impeach the president on what they are trying to do amounts to admitting guilt on their part as well. They (Democrates) want the proposal to die in committee. That way they can act like they are doing what is right without admitting guilt.

WAKE UP Democrates – America really does see what you are up to.
It is politics as usual. And we Americans are really tired of that. For a change go what is best for the Country – even if it goes against party policy.

It helps illustrate that most Democrats (just like their counterparts) are 100% for politics and 0% for people. I stumbled on cspan’s coverage of the house late one night this week and I’ve been waiting for the media to pick up on it. So far it hasn’t been covered. I suppose it may have been buried on page 12 at the New YorkTimes just as it has been buried in committee in the house. At this point its probably too late to do any good unless we can put President Bush in prison. While thats a long shot I think that Congress has better things to do than spend time and money impeaching Bush. He’s on his way out anyway and whether we kick him out of office early or not, we still have to clean up his mess. No doubt history will judge Bush with disgrace whether he is impeached or not. However, we do need to have this discussion openly and often so bravo to the Cafferty File and to Mr Kucinich.

The US Governement is a joke, just like our judicial system.

It’s amazing that we tried to impeach Nixon for bugging Watergate and Clinton having sex with Monica and we don’t impeach for violations that are much more serious. Let’s thumo our chest and say we are proud to be an American. Our government is the model that the rest of the world should follow. Yes, indeed.

At this point its almost a joke. Dick and Bush can’t even answer any media questions with out going so far off topic. We never get straight answers. If you lie about one thing, your going to lie about others. And these boys are lying to the whole country. When Clinton “lied” about Monica everyone was screaming impeachment, over a personal relationship. Bush lies about national interests, nuclear weapons, the war in Iraq, and our struggling economy, and we don’t do anything. It’s a JOKE.

This goes back to Dick Cheney’s experience in the Nixon Administration. He learned from Nixon, that the President should have no bounds on power. So Cheney believed they can do what they want, under executive priveledge.

One of Nixon’s most infamous quotes was, “By the simple fact that the President does it, means that it is not against the law.”

RE: What does it mean when Congress refuses to even consider 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush?

Perhaps those articles have no basis in law, or fact and are simply political rhetoric, like most post-Bush I political rants have been.

Sounds to me like they are all in it together. Dems and Rebs and then there are the people who support all of their expenses and wars. What say do we have about the laws that are broken by the president. No, it’s not ok but what can we the people do the get any justice? Maybe the media can bring some ATTENTION to the problems!! The reason this will never happen is becasue the president isnt the sole person that sent us to war. Everyone in congress had access to the same intel. he congress voted to go. i can figure out why its people dont understand how the government works. The president doesnt have to the power to go to war by himself. So if they impeach him then they must do the same thing with everybody that voted for it. You cant pick and choose. it would be people on both sides of the aisle.

We are a republic and our apathy and ignorance as a voting populace is being represented by the apathetic and perhaps, largely ignorant politicians whom serve no one but themselves.

I think that with so little time left in his presidency, many people might think that an impeachment is futile. Of course, it’s election season, so many politicians are least likely to want to offend the electorate so close to an election.

A person does not need to be an expert in politics to understand that the situations the United States is faceing, such as the war in Iraq, the so called recession, and problems within the borders of USA like Hurricane Katrina, are more important to solve than to waste time into impeaching a President who already gave himself and his adminstration a negative reputation. This does not mean in any way that Congress is being evasive and is ignoring President Bush’s actions in the Executive Branch. Therefore, in my opinion, Congress is acting in the interest of the country as a whole while keeping in mind both the problems within the US, and overseas, that need to be acknowledged .

Congress is not doing much of anything about the gas or economy anyway they may as well focus on the impeachment of the ones that has gotten us into this mess, just maybe in doing so truth about the high oil costs will be shaken out of someone, we all know Bush and Chaney to be responsible for this, we know they got their hands in the pot, what we need Congress to do is prove it.

Though most Americans want the economic crisis fixed now we know it will not be, at least not in the near future so Congress needs to give us justice for the wrongs we here in America and everyone in the world knows stems from the Bush Administration’s misuse of power. We want more than a poor rating, WE WANT JUSTICE BY IMPEACHEMENT FOR THE BLOOD OF OUR BRAVE, TRUSTING TROOPS!

Congress is wasting time doing nothing about anything they need to prove they want to be reelected by doing what most voters want, IMPEACHEMENT OF BUSH & CHENEY, it is a slap in the faces of the American people that these two could possibly leave office without an impeachment in their records.

Jack, if at all possible, I would like impeachment hearing on just about every politician, starting with Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mr. Murtha, Ted Kennedy, and so on. Criminals impeaching criminals just seems stupid to me. They should all stop the drama and get about the people’s business. I wish America would just impeach the government.

It means that Congress cares too much about their friendship with Pres. Bush than their duty to the American people. I can’t believe me being a 21 yr old voter can see through the lies. We can impeach Pres. Clinton for sexual behavior, but won’t consider impeachment for someone who has decieved the American people not once but several times during his administration. His White House Spokesman has said it and also his former Sec. of State. Congress gas never put their foot down nwith Pres. Bush, so i hope can can finally do it for the American people.

Media giants must take some accountability for the failure of this to be pushed through. If constituents (you me and the next commenter) were fully aware of the impeachment resolution, we could have made a bigger fuss about it so that our representatives would speak on our behalf. So many Americans are still ignorant on the tragedies that transpire because of Bush’s Administration.

The media barely picked this news story up. At what point EVER should news of Impeachment of the world’s most influential leader go as 2nd page news? NEVER.

Does Congress have the moral responsibility of following through with the impeachment? Absolutely. Pelosi completely ignoring this right is not only a slash against Democracy but most importantly a personal one that hits home for citizens who see President Bush get away with murder.

If we are unable to turn to the government who are so called “For the people by the people” then who else is there?

It all comes down to what you said above. With the way the election is brewing right now there’s no way the Democratic party can afford to lose support by putting all their efforts in ridding of the Republican in office.

What our government needs to do is stop focusing on choosing sides. Don’t they understand it’s actually AGAINST what they so claim to “Strive” for which is equality and unity in this country? If the candidates spent half as much time working on these qualities rather than insulting each other there would be someone worth voting for.

We may think change is coming but it’s quite the opposite. What we need is someone who will stop rambling and start acting. President Bush didn’t “respond” correctly to Katrina. Where is the man/woman who will go down there and AID Katrina.

The President’s love and pride in the country must be pure in order for citizens to follow, otherwise they’ll just continue hanging on thin words and slipping on scandals.

It means that we all know he screwed up the country and lied to the American people for his entire time in office. Would it be nice to point out that he indeed deserves to be impeached? Yes, congress should have started the process a LONG time ago, but the truth is that we’re all just counting down the days to the end of the ERROR 1-20-09, and we won’t have to deal with him ever again.

Thea won’t consider it because it would unite the Republican Party AND the country against the Ds, with 6 months ahead of the election, that’s why. They guy’s successfully kept the U.S. from being attacked again. Let ‘em rot in Quantanimo. Every time they release someone he comes back to try and kill us.

It means justice denied. This tragic excuse for a president and all his cronies should have been thrown out long ago. By taking impeachment “off the table”, Pelosi used that congressional power as a bargaining chip and “we the people” lost.

It means that I will not be voting for them come November!
The current administration and congress has been a laughing stock.
At the November election, I’m firing them all.

Wait ’til he’s out of office… then prosecute him at The Hague. And Cheney, too (especially Cheney).

Forget for now. Let the Democrats concentrate on regaining the White House and a larger majority in both houses. Then,
Bush and Cheney both should be indited, convicted and sentenced with no pardon.

They are still scared they will be seen as unpatriotic. What they forget is that our forefathers (the true Patriots) empowered them with the ability to impeach because it is their responsibility to hold the executive branch accountable. If they can’t handle the responsibilities of the job, they should resign.

Wake Up Middle Class. All of our do nothing Congress has to go. “WE THE PEOPLE” have to take our country back from the upper two percent rich who control Congress.

President Bush has done a very good job protecting our country. For that this man wants to impeach Bush. It looks like the congressman won’t stop until he impeaches someone.

Can’t the Congress at least admonish the President for mispronouncing the word “nuclear”? If your finger’s on the button, you should know what it’s for!

Nancy Pelosi doesn’t seem to have any idea WHY her party won a majority in 2006. She has delivered on none of the major issues that got Democrats elected, and appears to think that the party should simply continue to ride the wave of Bush-hatred to an even greater majority in 2008.

The real goal in Washington remains the eternal struggle to get re-elected. Same as it ever was.

Bush is living proof that crime does pay.

Can we impeach the U.S. Representatives that voted to disregard this issue for failure to uphold their oath of office to defend the Constitution. Let’s start impeachment proceedings against those elected Representatives.

The only benefit of Impeachment is to remove the president of his power to pardon at the end of his term and I consider that worth the effort.

BTW…in response to a few of the above posts…I would personally fight and die to keep my president and ex-president from going on trial at the Hague…enough is enough people. This is the USA…not the country of Earth…don’t like what’s happened, vote.
