I’m voting for McCain, but I’d say just about everyone was looking for this as the final sign that the Democratic primaries are finally over

If the primary was a cake, Edwards would be the frosting. The cake had been baked and cooled long ago, however.

It has no bearing on the race. Hillary had lost it some time ago and now we are going through a long drawn out recognition of that fact.

As much as people in the news are saying it is “much ado about nothing”, I believe it truly does. Check the candidates who were running initially and dropped out. All who have given endorsements have given them to Obama. I think these guys know something and saw something in Sen. Obama that they recognize as a leader. He has taken the high road in the election as much as he could without getting slaugtered by Sen. Clinton. He is a candidate with integrity and his campaign shows truly that he knows how to surround himself with smart people. He will do the same thing in his cabinet and FINALLY this country can heal. John Edwards has a message that resonates with the American people and if his endorsement did not count, why did Sen. Clinton seek it so aggressively??

I don’t think it has much of an effect. Edwards just ends up looking like an opportunist who is just looking for the best deal for himself. Yesterday obama showed us his arrogance and smugness toward the American people. Neither obama or Edwards are men of the people. They are elitists,pure and simple.

It’s a nail in the coffin for Clinton. He timed it smartly. Now she can’t say Obama didn’t earn the nomination or that they ganged up on her.

I believe that it takes the wind out of Hillary’s sails….. You may be looking at Obamas running mate in Novemeber…..

The words that come to mind are big, large, gigantic and monsterous. He is a great campaigner and is going on the road to help Obama so now would be a good time for Clinton to stop trying to shoot a 3 pointer and get with the program.

Do you read your on networks reports? This endorsement is uniting the party even the more. Already we have learned that six of Edwards eight delegates have stated they switch their support to Sen. Obama.

The Pittsburgh Steel Workers have also thrown in their support.

Edward’s endorsement does not mean much as those of us who are intelligent know that he was offered Attorney General or the like for the endorsement - that’s politics. That’s why he waited so long - and some men don’t want a woman to be President.
When Obama is the presumptive candidate and has lost the last 6 of 8 primaries - appears we are heading for a Republican win in the fall. The voters have decided on Obama - the ones that matter in Nov.

I think it is cranking up the pressure on fund raising for the Hillary campaign and causing all sorts of rash decision making.Yesterday she was taking $400 bucks from an 11 year old boy in W Virginia.Now the party organizers are spinning that into support from the hardworking white lunch money demographic.No president has ever won the Presidency without that support.

According to CNN’s estimate, Obama now has 291 superdelegates to Clinton’s 274. How’s that for effect, Jack?

John Edwards carried out the role of the fat lady in prime time. Looks like Edwards has a chip in the big game now. This super delegate business is a hell of a deal. You get to place your bet AFTER the winner comes in and then you go directly to the pay window.

As someone who is a John Edwards fan, it makes me absolutely giddy that I can finally vote for him. I detested John Kerry so much that I could not vote for im last time even though I reallly like Edwards. I think Edwards will help Obama witht the blue collar voters he has that Bill Clinton thing going (salesmanship) and integrity. Someting that neither Hillary or Bill have.

John Edwards endorsement, while important, will not hasten the end of this primary process as Hillary has pledged to see it through to the finish. It does though add to the inevitable outcome of an Obama victory and enhances his chances of a Cabinet appointment under the Obama administration.

It does not affect it at all. Hillary is not going anywhere until all the states have had a say. She is waitng to make a 3 point shot at the end but she’s down by 100 and all that equates to is a nice try. Everyone knows the nomination is Obamas including Hillary but I think she has not worn all her pant suites yet and what a waste that would be!

I don’t know how Edward’s endorsement affects the Democratic primary race, but I do know how it affects me. It makes me ill. I thought Edwards was made of better stuff than this grand-standing. Now, I think, he must have cut a deal with Obama for the VP. Obama must have been worried after her West Virginia win to offer the VP to Edwards for his support. How many days until that announcement? I think, when Hillary has a win in the Blue Grass state, KY. we’lll hear who Obama wants as his VP. This stuff never ceases to amaze me!

It doesn’t much. What will affect/effect Obama is if he selects Hillary as a VP. He should not assume that all of us people who supported him, would support her with him. I would not. It is time the Democrats wake up that, many of us are voting for Obama because we don’t want another 4 years of Bush. But Hillary is even worse, if he doesn’t realize that, then I fear he will lose.

The Edwards endorsment doesn’t mean much except to show Edwards prostituting for a vice presidency. Leave it to trial lawyer to wait until he thinks the winds are blowing in his favor and then position his services for a price. Did you see that hair style yesterday. Not a hair out of place. Good for another $400.00. Neither of these phonies will win.

The bottom line is the working class voters are coming out in droves to hear “her” - Obama dumped the working class voters in W.Va., she’s the one that shows up, looked into their eyes, shakes their hand, listens to the voters, & is working till the end of the campaign. He’s quitting cause he thinks he’s got the nomination sewed up. Before I retired, making a call made the sale, not just a referral from another customer. Edward’s may make a referral, but she’s building relationships.

Practically ends it Jack. He is the last of the Democratic presidential contenders to endorse and like all the rest of the them he selected Obama. The Edwards endorsement helps Obama in building a three fold collation with Gov. Richardson, NARAL, to help take back blue collar workers, latinos and women respectively no matter what Sen. Clinton does after the race.

By the way Jack, I’m a member of the United Steelworker’s Union and I didn’t endorse Obama. So I guess the real figure is 599,999. It’s gonna be a very big effort, Jack, but you really need to find a little objectivity when asking these entirely rhetorical questions, particularly when you cite “facts.”

It’s a done deal for Barack Obama. Senator Clinton needs to show fiscal responsibility, and leadership and gracefully drop her bid now; if she expects anyone to help bail her out of debt. She can not win this nomination, she can only attempt to steal it.

With Obama having a lead in every category and superdelegates waiting until the last primary elections are over to cast their final say in the matter (for Obama), the only person affected is Edwards (surprise, surprise). Superdelegates will endorse Obama eventually, so if Edwards didnt endorse him soon, he would miss out on his moment in the spotlight. Nobody cared about Edwards- except the disappointed voters who had faith in him.

Jack, the primary race is over and Obama has won. Edwards endorsement can cost Obama votes in the national elections. If Hillary beats Obama in Kentucky even though the blue collar vote getter John Edwards campaigned for him , this will have terrible consequences for the Obama campaign. Not at all! I am dissapointed that he came out with such an indorcement as Hilary was speaking on all the networks reguarding west virginia. However it didnt surprise me, obama has interuppted Mrs. Clintons thunder before, I find it very unbecomming like his sweetie remarks. I think there will be buyers remorse once people see that obama is old school. He needs a senator on board as a running mate to win key states. I dont think much, I question the timing. Obama still has some charges hanging over his head in Illinois, this may surface at an inopertune time for him.
I do not see how he gets the support he gets. He has no record of accomplishment, he voted 40% “present” in Congress, which doesnt show his position on anything. He is an empty suit.
The RNC will “swiftboat ” him to death if he is the candidate and hand the election to McBush.

Edwards’ endorsement probably means nothing. His anti-poverty message has been the first cogent argument since Bobby Kennedy championed the destitute 40 years ago. Sadly, it’s not been a “hit” since, and it didn’t resonate with primary voters this cycle either, judging from Edwards’ miserable showing. Unfairly or not, Democrats see Edwards as an also-ran. Obama could, however, benefit from this endorsement if he touts Edwards as leading his short list for Attorney General, so Edwards can go after all those big corporations that profit off the backs of the poor.

What Democratic primary race? Everyone including Hillary and her supporters know this thing is over. Edwards endorsement is just another attempt to make it stop.

How the message that Edwards’ supporting Obama took the wind right out of Hillary’s bags in her victory in West Virginia was the real message. If timing and Edward’s endorsement wasn’t meaningful, shouldn’t Hillary’s win be more newsworthy? It isn’t because Edward’s endorsement was meaningful and Hillary’s hope isn’t anymore. What momentum Hillary may have had in a millisecond was lost upon Edward’s statements and his timing which was probably orchestrated. Obama is in the driver’s seat all the way to Washington, sans McCain as a viable opponent. A new wind in Washington to blow out these corrupt republicans can’t blow too soon for me!

Edwards’ endorsement is the exclamation point for Obama’s campaign. This will make it easier for other superdelegates to pledge for Obama and the United Steelworkers have a strong grass-roots organization that can put a lot of feet on the ground to drum up blue-collar support for Obama’s campaign. While Clinton’s attempt to win the nomination is futile, it is a good thing for Obama. It would look bad for the anointed nominee to lose big in Puerto Rico to a person no longer in the race.

It helps bring the party together, it took momentum away from loser Hillary and rejuvenated people with uplifting rhetoric…maybe we can move on and win this election

It’s huge and you know it. Its going to help Obama on two fronts: getting support from working-class, white voters and getting support from superdelegates. It’s already paid dividends as he picked up the endorsement of 6 of Edwards’ delegates and the endorsement of the SteelWorker’s union. He’s moving up in every category. I think its time to unite behind the democratic nominee.

Hillary doesn’t know how to quit. Obama could be endorsed by every trade union every delagate and have every voters support and this old nag just won’t quit. Maybe she has a Shaman somewhere telling her she can win but my guess is she has had her way for so long and been so spoiled by politics that her brain is fried. Jack, John Edwards endorsement of Senater Obama give him a big political boost. I was behind John Edwards and was hoping he would have been the nominee, after which I joined the Obama camp. I am so glad to see John endorse Senater Obama. This really removes all doubt in my mind that Senater Obama will be our nominee. Senater Obama has been attached from every politcal angle and has survived the punches.

John Edwards said it himself last week on a radio interview… endorsements don’t matter. At this stage in the game, an endorsement is not very helpful for either candidate, unless they are a superdelegate, which Edwards is not. Had Edwards come out within weeks of his dropping out, he may have swayed his constituents towards a candidate, which could have made a big difference in ending this race much sooner. But now, it was too little, too late, and a huge waste of time.

It sickens me to see Edwards endorse Obama rather than Clinton!
We feel sure Obama is a fine man, however, we never even heard of him until about a year ago and his inexperience scares me with the mess Bush/Cheney has made for us. His time will come, it just should not be NOW when we need desparately to have someone

The endorsement by john Edwards could not have come at a better time. They say timing is everything and this announcement certainly proves it. It overshadowed Clinton’s win in West Virginia, demonstrated that Obama and company know how to play to the media and energized others to jump on board the Obama Express!

This endorsement by Sen. Edwards has proven that it is time for the party to come together and that Clinton can not steel the nomination from Sen. Obama. I am not saying the race should end but it is time for Clinton to rally these member that support her and shift them in a positive way to Obama.

I was a Clinton fun when I first heard about her running for President but I strongly feel that her time was four years ago. She missed her window now it is some else turn. I have her back but not in this race.

It is the beginning of the annointment process for our nominee. It means we can let the general election begin and in doing so, begin a historic march to Washington — one that would impress even Dr. King.

I think Hillary’s made it clear that the DNC will need security to remove her from the convention after she rejects any nomination vote that doesn’t make her the winner.

It doesn’t affect the primary much, just lowers HRC’s hopes, which were already buried in the Mariana Trench.

However, I believe that it will affect the general election quite positively, come November. Edwards was virtually everyone’s second choice, has offended few, and is by any standards quite capable, intelligent, and persuasive. His voice blended with Obama’s will convince most of the Hillary supporters to join the Democrat’s efforts.

Sen. Obama should announce soon just what role John Edwards will play in the Obama administration. I hope for VP, but expect a cabinet post or UN Ambassadorship (now wouldn’t that help world opinion a mite?)

It doesn’t effect the race that much. Most people for Hillary were never for Edwards anyway. You can be sure Obama made some “Big Promises” to Edwards in return for his endorsement–like maybe Attorney General or V. P.–People will & do rem. that Kerry/Edwards failed before & how poorly Edwards did in his on campaign for this same election. The endorsement was a nominating speech. The race has been over for a while and Edwards is coming on the bandwagon to try to help connect the candidate with the blue collar and rural folks that are a group that Edwards has been the candidate of choice for.

The endorsement of Barack Obama declared the end of the Clinton campaign and the beginning of the fall campaign. It also delivered the Steelworkers endorsement and it may deliver some of the populist appeal Obama still needs.

However, the most important endorsement needs to come from Hillary Clinton. She needs to do everything she can to ensure that Barack Obama is the next president or its likely John McCain will win in the fall.

Edwards is huge. Although never achieveing the nomination for president, he has always faired well and liked by just about everyone in the party. Even those wouldnt vote for him before seem to respect him.

I don’t know if there is such a thing as a nice, down to earth guy in politics…but John is the closest you’ll find.

If clinton had gotten his endorsement, she would have been singing and dancing.

Given Americans’ short-term memory , everyone will forget about this bitterly-battled primary season, will have another 5-6 months to reguirgitate the gruesome fight to come between the Democrats & Republicans by the national media.

Edwards’ endorsement will not appease bigoted whites, nor should Barack Obama be concerned with doing so. Bigots will vote against him whether he adds a white man to his ticket, pins a flag to his PJ’s every night, or spends summer days chucking hay onto a wagon with a pitchfork. They don’t CARE that he’s half white–for them the glass will be “half black” no matter what he does. The sooner Dems forget about appeasement or for that matter, red and blue states, the faster we can test out the new electoral map. It’s about “community”. Those who want it can vote democratic. Those who mourn the passing of “separate but equal” can stay home or console themselves with Bob Barr.

I think John Edwards will help unify the Democrats. He spoke highly of Hillary and Obama mentioned her in his speech too. Obama has never attacked her. He has had to answer different attacks coming from her. I think this is why she has lost votes. Too negative. I heard someone say that Edwards didn’t like it when she seemed to be playing the race card. Her comment on the white blue collar people was a bad idea.

It doesn’t matter. Kerry & Edwards lost the presidential election and Edwards couldn’t even get close to getting the nomination this time. I don’t see the value of Edwards to any Democratic candidate.

I do not believe it will have any affect on the campaign it just pretty much a closer for this Democratic race. A lot of the superdelegates that carries a lot of power behind will now start to select there candidate in way to say, I waited until we had clear knowledge of who the candidate would be, so the neither of the candidates could say in the end, you voted for your candidate to soon therefore causing lots of other people to follow your lead. People should not be upset by the powerful superdelegates that chose to wait until the end. This was a tight race and if Hillary was perceived to be the nominee believes me he would have endorsed her. It is going to take the American people along with the entire democratic supports win this race in November.

The Edward’s endorsement is a necessary first step in the National Democratic Party elders comming together and showing some backbone by letting Hillary Clinton understand that she cannot keep redefining reality, having temper tandrums and everyone co-signing it.

Edwards’ endorsement helps to the degree that it sends a message to Hillary Clinton “enough already!” It also releases his delegates so that Obama can inch closer to the required number of delegates to clinch the nomination. I must say Edwards’ late nomination was no profile in courage; it doesnt take a genius, a maverick or a brave person to jump on the winning band wagon.

This endorsement doesn’t affect the primary. Obama has already won. What this does is begin to end the primary and unify the party. Edwards spent a few months praising both candidates, and became a neutral voice in this divided primary battle. That gives him credibility to extend the olive branch to Clinton voters in a way that other friends of Obama couldn’t.

Obama doesn’t need Edwards for the primary. But he can definitely use him for the general. The 600,000 steelworkers that were loyal to Edwards were just the tip of the iceberg. If Obama puts Edwards to work, he can appeal to rural voters and working class voters and absolutely dominate McCain.

Who cares if Edwards endorses Obama. McCain is going to win. The Republicans who voted for Obama are going to vote Republican. Obama may win but I don’t think it is going to be a land slide. Obama is not a proven canidate. I will vote for Obama only because I don’t want the republicans to win but, Obama was not the best choice we had to choose from Biden, Dodd, Clinton are much better. I hope he does not choose Richardson for vice president. If he does he will loose the nomination considering how people feel about hispanics.

Jack - I believe that the endorsement of John Edwards is huge for the Obama Campaign. John Edwards is very strong on poverty and has support among blue-collar workers. With Obama signing on to Edwards plan to cut poverty in half in 10 years will resignate with alot of people, especially for the millions of people that support the fight on poverty, not just in the US but around the world.

It’s going to bring the blue collar votes to Obama come election time. Edwards has been the voice of us, the blue collar workers of America, as well as the poor. Obama is as well, but isn’t as well known as Edwards. Edwards’ endorsement is telling us -i believe in this man, we share ideals, and he will do for you what i want to do for you. He is saying that he believes Obama is the candidate to actually put your TRUST behind.

Not at all. People are more inteligent, with more common sense and specially more mature what than you think. Edwards , like many others are just opportunist looking for some publicity and a post in Obama’s scheme. On the other hand, no matters who endorse Obama, he’ll still be naive and inmature and really not ready to be the president of USA.

This was obviously orchestrated to steal thunder from Clinton when it was needed, and that worked well.

Now the real question is, does this mean Edwards is the running mate? That’s a tighrope because it might win working class voters at the expense of more conservative and moderate Independents, who are more likely to defect to McCain. If that is the concern, Richardson would be the best choice because he would fill in all the foreign and other experience gaps the GOP will try to play up after nominations.

The key will be whether Hillary’s ego and ambition will let her bow out early in June and line up with the Obamarama. I think a lot of voters have Dynasty Fatigue and believe our best shot as a nation is to wrest the White House from the two families who have held it for more than two decades now.

Just as Shrub is no HW, Hillary is no Bill. Hopefully we as a nation will never again make the mistake of voting for a last name and getting skunked. But at least Hillary isn’t a pig in a poke and has actually succeeded at something before now. And I think she was better than a C student at Wellesley.That has to be an improvement if she does manage to pull it out somehow.

Edward’s endorsement shatters Clinton’s ego as well as her hopes and dreams for becoming the nominee. Maybe Hillary will finally be able to wake up from her fantasy world and come back to reality…the reality that she has a huge campaign debt and sufficitently lacks the numbers to even think she could win (or swindel) the nomination. Maybe Hillary should consider brushing up with a math refresher course after she quits the race.

Edwards’ endorsement and the growing list of important super delegates and labor unions that are jumping on his bandwagon should seal the deal for Obama. And any lingering doubts I had about voting for Obama are being erased today as Bush, McCain and the whole dishonest, corrupt Republican smear and fear propaganda machine ramps up its dishonest, bullying efforts to discredit him.

Edwards endorsing Obama changes NOTHING!

As a clinton supporter I can tell you that she will not stop, she will go until the last vote is cast and counted! That is the American way, for those democrats that are scared of playing the game till the end maybe they should leave the court!

Hillary was endorsed by four former Kentucky governors, endorsements are just that an endorsement of someone by someone. Voters vote on policy and Hillary is the most experienced on the issues.

I think that this shows how Obama is the stronger and the right canidate for the democrats! It will also help Obama with the blue collar votes. Him and Edwards will work with together to win West Virginia, Indiana, Pensylvania Ohio and the presidency! Go Obama!

Damage control is the way to describe Edward’s endorsement. Wag the dog is another way to phrase his endorsing of Obama. The timing is suspicious and questionable. He was simply trying change the subject after the tsunami defeat Obama suffered in West Virginia, which expose the lack of support he’s receiving from essential core democrat voters or what may be his inability to win the white votes in key electoral states.

By coming out last night, Obama raised the bar. He better win Kentucky now that he has John Edwards, man of the people!

I wonder where Elizabeth Edwards was. She is the member of the Edwards family America admires. I heard she didn’t care for the Obama healthcare plan. She herself believes in Universal Healthcare.

As far as John’s endorsement. Everybody made a big deal when Ted Kennedy endorsed him…then what? Fizzle!

If he is on the ticket as Vice President, he again would be running with a candidate perceived as an elitist. He did nothing for Kerry not even carrying his home state and he was an active Senator then..now he’s been out of the limelight for a long time.

So to me it’s just another endorsement!

Jack, if Barack Obama needed a knockout blow for Hillary Clinton, John Edwards threw the punch. Edwards’ support crossed party lines like no politician has for a long time, and if Independants or Republicans needed an excuse to support Obama, Edwards gave it to them.

This endorsement was the last nail in the coffin of Hillary’s desperate nomination bid. I was glad to see she regrets “repeating” information from the AP article while claiming the uneducated white vote somehow forms her “coalition,” but the damage has been done, and John Edwards wisely intervened to stop her from doing more damage to her own party. You have to love the hypocrysy, though, she will cherry pick exit polls about white voters in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and demand the results of Michigan and Florida count, but she of course wants us to ignore the results of white voters in Iowa, Virginia, Wisconsin, Missouri, and all the states with similar proportions of white voters to West Virginia and Ohio because it doesn’t fit her last desperate argument to hold the nomination hostage.

Since the demographics are so important to you people, take a look at this one. In West Virginia–a 271.2 per 100,000 population violent crime rate. District of Columbia–a 1,371.2 per 100,000 population violent crime rate. Take me home!
